Scientific Games Wins 2026 Communitas Award for Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence

Scientific Games Wins the 2026 Communitas Award

In a significant acknowledgment of its efforts in corporate social responsibility, Scientific Games has been awarded the 2026 Communitas Award. This distinction is particularly notable as it shines a light on the company's innovative recycling project that centers on wooden shipping pallets, executed in partnership with the Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel, one of Germany's largest social organizations supporting people with disabilities.

The award was presented to the global lottery operator for its exceptional environmentally and ethically responsible initiatives. By donating hundreds of used wooden pallets, which were originally utilized for shipping scratch-off tickets to German lottery companies, Scientific Games has embarked on a project aimed at both reducing waste and creating valuable job opportunities for individuals in the disabled community.

The organization transformed the untreated wood into practical items like birdhouses and toys, handcrafted in the Cracks Workshop in Bethel by members of the disabled community. These newly crafted products were then sold in Bethel's store, generating revenue to fund the foundation's programs and sustain its operations.

Andrew Jackson, Vice President of Corporate Responsibility at Scientific Games, expressed pride in receiving the Communitas Award, stating, "This project exemplifies our global commitment to invest in community-driven initiatives that create measurable ecological and social impacts, strengthen communities, and generate sustainable value."

Dunja Vukotic-Finkler, head of Instant Tickets Service Operations at Scientific Games, emphasized how this collaboration has creatively repurposed valuable materials back into the community. "Through our partnership with Bethel, these pallets become products that promote the training and employment of people with disabilities. We take pride in the fact that an initiative deeply rooted in our daily operations is recognized for its ecological and social benefits."

The partnership plays a critical role in reducing landfill waste while prolonging the life of natural materials. By regularly donating materials, Scientific Games helps Bethel expand its wood processing capabilities, preparing for larger and more complex projects. Jürgen Hoff, head of the Cracks Workshop at Bethel, remarked on the value of high-quality wood donations, especially during economically challenging times when charity contributions dwindle. "The donated materials allow participants to create products that can fund further programs and help them acquire new skills through meaningful work," he noted.

This 2026 recognition builds on Scientific Games' previous achievements, having won two Communitas Awards in 2025 for the SG Tech Project, which provided refurbished technology to local schools, and for the company's volunteer efforts in a STEAM career mentoring program for young women.

With the overarching goal of supporting communities globally, Scientific Games helps government-regulated lotteries generate tens of billions annually to fund various nonprofit programs, including initiatives in health, social care, education, and the environment. The Communitas Awards are inspired by the vision of a better world achieved through volunteerism, investments in community development, and ethical, sustainable business practices.
