Highlighted Installation at Hollywood Beauty Plaza

One of the stunning installations at the Hollywood Beauty Plaza during this art event is by artist Ali Bayuaji, titled "Weaving the Ocean." Bayuaji, originally from Indonesia, discovered the alarming presence of plastic ropes tangled in the roots of mangroves along the coast of Bali. Inspired by this, he launched a place-based art project amid the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Working closely with local artisans, he upcycles plastic waste, such as fishing ropes and nets, into beautifully woven textiles using vibrant nylon threads. This project not only creates sustainable income opportunities but also serves as an educational platform, reflecting a fusion of nature, tradition, and sustainability.
