Geronimo Power Begins Construction of Bee Hollow Solar Project
Geronimo Power, a notable player in the renewable energy sector, has officially initiated onsite construction of its much-anticipated
150-megawatt (MW) Bee Hollow Solar project in
St. Clair County, Illinois. This project not only marks a significant milestone for the company but also promises to deliver substantial economic benefits to the region, including job creation, increased tax revenue, and a commitment to charitable contributions.
According to Nathan Franzen, Chief Project Delivery Officer at Geronimo Power, the launch of construction is an exciting step in enhancing the economic landscape of rural America. He emphasizes how the community will benefit from new job opportunities and tax contributions that will aid local development. Over the first two decades of its operations, Bee Hollow is projected to generate an impressive
$54 million in direct economic impact for the area, which includes approximately
$17 million in tax revenue shared among the county, township, and local school districts.
Additionally, Geronimo Power has dedicated itself to supporting its host communities through a special charitable fund, going beyond the tax revenues from the project. This initiative is part of the company’s broader mission to act as responsible neighbors in the regions where they operate.
The construction of the Bee Hollow project is being executed by Burns & McDonnell, a national engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm. The collaboration between these two organizations highlights their shared dedication to delivering renewable energy to the grid through a well-coordinated effort. As the construction progresses, the project is expected to sustain around
200 jobs, providing a boost to local employment levels.
This solar power endeavor is not only a financial boon for the community but also an essential step towards cleaner energy production. The Illinois Municipal Electric Agency (IMEA) has entered into a power purchase agreement for the project, underscoring its significance in the agency's renewable energy portfolio. IMEA President and CEO, Kevin Gaden, noted that this investment represents their largest in renewable energy to date, aiming for a more diversified and sustainable energy future.
Scheduled to commence operations in late
2026, the Bee Hollow Solar project is projected to generate enough clean energy to supply approximately
45,600 homes annually. Moreover, it is anticipated to dramatically reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by
219,100 metric tons each year—equivalent to the environmental benefit of removing
51,100 vehicles from the roads for one year.
As a pioneer in the renewable energy sector, Geronimo Power—previously known as National Grid Renewables—dedicates itself to developing, owning, and operating large-scale sustainable energy projects throughout America’s Heartland. With a focus on solar, wind, and energy storage, Geronimo Power stands out for its commitment to fostering local economic growth while empowering landowners and rural communities through sustainable practices.
