Modernism Week 2026: A Showcase of Design and Culture

Modernism Week, one of the most distinguished festivals celebrating architecture and design, took place from February 12–22, 2026, in Palm Springs, California. This year, the festival attracted more than 111,000 attendees from around the globe, continuing its trajectory as a leading event in the architecture and design calendar.

The festival has evolved significantly since its inception over 21 years ago, amassing a staggering attendance of over 1.5 million attendees. Highlighting its cultural significance, Modernism Week generated an impressive estimated economic impact of $62 million for the Coachella Valley, bringing its cumulative economic contribution to a remarkable total of over $560 million.

Central to this year’s event was a meticulously curated program featuring nearly 500 distinctive events, made possible through collaborations with 52 partner organizations and the support of 95 distinguished sponsors. Among those partners were 15 historic neighborhoods that played a key role in shaping the festival's character.

A core component of Modernism Week is its commitment to education and mentorship for the next generation of design leaders. This commitment is reflected in its ongoing scholarships supporting Coachella Valley students pursuing careers in architecture and design. Since 2011, the festival has awarded more than $400,000 in scholarships to deserving students.

The diversity of presentations at Modernism Week is also noteworthy, featuring over 80 lectures and films led by renowned architects, designers, and historians. This year's keynote address was delivered by Elizabeth Diller, a notable figure in contemporary architecture from Diller Scofidio + Renfro.

In a significant milestone, this year's festival also hosted the prestigious World Monuments Fund/Knoll Modernism Prize Ceremony, honoring excellence in the preservation of modernist architecture. This event not only elevated Modernism Week's profile but also reinforced its platform as a gathering of global thought leaders in architecture and design.

The attendees reflected the event's international appeal, with individuals traveling from all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and 28 countries, including Australia, Canada, Germany, and the U.K. California alone accounted for about 42% of attendees, reflecting local support and enthusiasm for modernist design.

Top sponsors such as Ferguson Home, Brizo, Dunn-Edwards Paints, and the City of Palm Springs, which served as the Civic Presenting Sponsor, showcased their commitment to promoting the values and impact of modernist design.

Looking ahead, Modernism Week plans to continue its success with the next installment, Modernism Week – October, scheduled for October 15-18, 2026, with tickets going on sale August 1. Following that, Modernism Week 2027 is set for February 11-21, 2027, with ticket sales starting on November 1.
