LG Channels Sees Growth in News Viewership Through User Interface Enhancements
Enhancements in LG Channels Drive News Viewership Growth
In a significant move to bolster the viewership of its news offerings, LG Electronics (LG) has announced that its platform, LG Channels, has enjoyed a substantial increase in audience numbers, largely attributable to improvements in user experience and an expanded variety of content available. The company has embarked on a quest to enhance how users access news, aligning its strategies with partnerships with prominent broadcasters and news organizations aimed at making content not just more plentiful but also more local and relevant to viewers.
Starting in August 2025, LG Channels has introduced a new News Portal that allows direct access to news content from the home screen on LG Smart TVs equipped with webOS 25. With this feature being rolled out via the Q-Card, viewers can expect an accessible way to explore news where it matters most at their fingertips. This initiative is expected to be extended to more platforms later in the year, promoting further growth in news consumption through LG's free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) service.
The LG Channels News Hub allows U.S.-based Smart TV users to access an extensive range of free, ad-supported news channels. This curated selection is made possible through partnerships with several leading national and local broadcasters including well-known names such as NBCUniversal, Disney, FOX Television Stations, and Warner Bros. Discovery, establishing a robust ecosystem that caters to diverse viewer preferences.
Moreover, the News Hub integrates localized content from the Local Now channels, providing real-time news for over 220 local channels available across every U.S. ZIP code. This focus on regional reporting exemplifies LG's commitment to delivering timely and relevant news to users.
To further cater to Spanish-speaking audiences, LG has collaborated earlier this year with the NBCUniversal News Group, introducing several 24/7 streaming news channels under the Telemundo Station Group. These channels offer regional news coverage from California, Texas, Florida, and the Northeastern regions of the United States, thus widening LG Channels' appeal across different demographic groups.
The impact of these strategic partnerships has been significant, coinciding with double-digit growth in the LG Channels service year-over-year in the U.S. The company’s ongoing commitment to improving regional news access through LG Channels was recently recognized when they won the Award for Achievement in Local Broadcasting at the ITVT/TVOT 21st Annual Awards for Leadership in Interactive and Multiplatform Television in June 2025.
Chris Jo, head of the webOS Platform Business Center at LG Media Entertainment Solution Company, stated, "Our objective with LG Channels has always been to provide high-quality, relevant content easily accessible for everyone. By pairing up with trusted news providers and broadcast giants, we continuously seek to refine user experience, ensuring local and national news is not just accessible but also meaningful and timely for everyday viewers."
The webOS platform has been a pivotal part of this evolution, powering LG TVs for over a decade and earning accolades for its user-friendly interface, which allows for seamless navigation and customization based on viewer preferences. As LG channels continue to expand, they offer a wide selection of premium live and on-demand programming across genres including movies, TV shows, sports, and news.
In summary, LG Channels has made remarkable strides in increasing accessibility to vital news content, showcasing its commitment to delivering quality information that resonates on both local and national levels. As LG Electronics continues to innovate, viewers can anticipate an even richer content offering in the future.
