Huawei Introduces New IDS Features at CIRED 2025 for Future Power Distribution Networks

In June 2025, Huawei took center stage at the CIRED 2025 conference, held from the 16th to the 19th, showcasing their innovative Intelligent Distribution Solution (IDS). This prestigious event, recognized as a leading platform for power distribution networking, saw the participation of 129 companies and over 2,600 industry experts from 72 countries, all of whom gathered for technical workshops and networking opportunities. During the conference, Huawei introduced groundbreaking capabilities within their IDS framework, targeting the pressing need for digital transformation in future power distribution systems.

As the global energy distribution sector faces challenges such as frequent power outages, aging infrastructure, and underutilized renewable resources, Huawei's IDS aims to address these issues with a robust technological solution. The adoption of the 'cloud-pipe-edge-device' architecture, along with advanced ICT technologies such as High-Performance Line Communications (HPLC), has enabled proactive maintenance and clearer detection metrics. This technological advancement significantly reduces response times to outages and enhances network resilience, especially during extreme weather events, thereby improving customer satisfaction.

To illustrate the IDS's effectiveness, Huawei highlighted its large-scale implementation in China, where it has been rigorously tested by over 20 global energy companies. The results have been promising, demonstrating a reduction in power outage detection times to as little as two minutes and an approximate 20% decrease in line loss rates across the Asia-Pacific region.

A notable addition introduced during the CIRED event is a tailored feature of the IDS that tackles the challenge of non-visible, immeasurable, and unmonitored devices within energy distribution environments. Leveraging AI and IoT technologies, Huawei has developed a weather-resistant environmental monitoring network that offers real-time alerts around the clock. This capabilities enable timely identification of environmental threats and promote preventative maintenance of equipment. By shifting from reactive measures to proactive prevention, Huawei aims to help clients mitigate the impact of severe weather conditions on energy supplies, thus enhancing reliability while extending the lifespan of their equipment.

Additionally, Huawei facilitated an IDS Rump Session in collaboration with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), sharing hand-on experiences on how to leverage partnerships in driving digital and smart transformations in distribution networks. As a staunch advocate for international standards in energy distribution, Huawei also participated in the fifth meeting of the IEEE P 2413.2 working group, focusing on promoting standardization in the energy industry and addressing two pivotal technical challenges: medium voltage feeder link and transparency in 400V low voltage devices.

With these innovative IDS features, Huawei continues to push technological boundaries and practical applications within the energy field, aiming for clearer management of low voltage devices. The seamless integration of these solutions not only assists energy distributors in optimizing operations but also cultivates an environment conducive to sustainable energy practices.
