Experience a Transformative Summer at GLI Summer Camp in Japan

From July 20 to July 26, 2025, Global Learner's Institute (GLI) will host an exciting 6-night, 7-day summer camp in the beautiful region of Hakone, Japan. This incredible opportunity invites children from various countries to come together, live, and learn in a supportive environment that goes beyond just a vacation experience.

An Immersive Learning Experience

At the GLI Summer Camp, participants will engage in activities that allow them to explore both nature and culture. With 26 children from countries including Japan, the United Kingdom, Nepal, and the Philippines, this multicultural gathering is designed to enhance communication skills through intercultural exchange.

We aim to foster responsibility, teamwork, and self-initiative through group work and outdoor experiences. Campers will immerse themselves in traditional Japanese culture by participating in various activities, including:

- Calligraphy
- Taiko drumming
- Zen meditation
- Hiking around Hakone
- Nature walks
- Exploring Enoshima and Kamakura
- Cooking together
- Group activities
- Presentation showcases

Building Connections and Memories

Throughout the camp, children initially divided by nationality began to engage in meaningful conversations, building trust and friendships. Enjoying the natural beauty of Hakone, they shared sweat and laughter during physical activities. In their calligraphy sessions, they collaborated to create beautiful art, and in the taiko drumming workshops, they practiced together and ultimately performed in front of an audience, showcasing their achievements in joyous expressions.

Nature exploration activities provided an opportunity to experience unique geological formations and natural phenomena, sparking curiosity and a desire to learn among the campers. On the final day, a group presentation and farewell party were held, where students expressed their emotions with tears as they reflected on the bonds formed during their time together.

A Message from the Organizers

In today’s education landscape, there is often pressure to seek out programs that provide measurable benefits. However, growth in children doesn’t always come from complex frameworks or difficult challenges.

- The bittersweet experience of saying goodbye to newfound friends

Such simple experiences can lead to profound growth for children, often resulting in a pure and authentic development. If those experiences are shared with peers from different countries, it becomes an exceptional global education opportunity.

The sense of camaraderie that transcends borders was palpable at the camp. Campers were commended for daily actions like “cutting potatoes,” “washing dishes,” and “expressing their views,” fostering a strong sense of community.

As the camp concluded with an awards ceremony filled with applause and cheers, the campers beamed with pride. While participation in camps tends to drop during middle and high school in Japan, many students abroad eagerly attend summer camps, leaving behind their parents to enjoy a rich, independent experience.
