Exploring Okkun's Enchanting Memories at ARISA ADAMS' Exhibition

A Journey Through Okkun's Memories: ARISA ADAMS' 'ONE OF ONE' Exhibition

From October 17, 2025, tHE GALLERY HARAJUKU will showcase an exhibition titled 'ONE OF ONE' by the talented artist ARISA ADAMS, introducing audiences to the whimsical figure of Okkun, who hails from the imaginary planet Shimeji.

The Story of Okkun

Okkun is a creature from Shimeji who finds himself lost on Earth, occasionally recalling nostalgic moments from his home planet. Featuring a playful narrative, Okkun often dons a paper bag when he feels lonely, reminiscing about the joyous experiences of his past. This exhibition beautifully encapsulates Okkun's cherished memories along with the new ones he has created on Earth, represented through 50 unique soft vinyl figures. Each figure narrates a part of Okkun's journey, designed to evoke both happiness and a touch of nostalgia in viewers.

ARISA ADAMS: Artist Profile

Originally born in Shirokane, Japan, Arisa Adams moved to Las Vegas at a tender age, where her passion for art bloomed. She honed her artistic abilities in oil painting and sculpture at the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts and continued her education at the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). Here, she explored a multitude of art forms including painting, performance, and digital techniques.

After returning to Japan in 2018, Arisa built her career as a model and television personality, deepening her ties with Tokyo's vibrant art community. Now back in the United States, she focuses on creating sofubi (soft vinyl) and character figures using cutting-edge 3D software and printing technologies.

Her artwork is often centered around the theme of the 'pure self', capturing a range of human emotions—joy, sadness, vulnerability, and resilience—through boldly designed characters. As Arisa broadens her artistic presence internationally, she continues to strengthen her links with the Japanese art scene, engaging audiences to explore the complexities of emotion and identity reflected in her creations.

The Essence Behind her Art

Arisa's work is marked by an endearing charm reminiscent of characters from children's literature. The rounded forms and approachable expressions create a nostalgic texture for viewers. However, beneath this exterior lies a subtle unease, inviting contemplation. Her artworks serve as a gentle disturbance to memories, not in a frightening way, but revealing an 'alternative face' hidden beneath sweetness.

Notably, what sets Arisa apart is her method of creation. Employing 3D printing and digital modeling not as a means for mass production, but rather as tools to instantly shape personal impulses, she prioritizes speed over perfection. Her approach resonates with the punk ethos of the 1970s—a rebellion not just in appearance but in method.
