Pokémon Sleep Introduces New Relaxation Exercise for Better Sleep on World Sleep Day

Pokémon Sleep Unveils 'Hoge-Taisou' for Improved Sleep on World Sleep Day

On March 13, designated as World Sleep Day, Pokémon Company announced the introduction of a new relaxation exercise called 'Hoge-Taisou' through their sleep game application, Pokémon Sleep. This initiative aims to alleviate mental and physical tension before bedtime, thus promoting better sleep. The company conducted thorough research involving 41,832 users of Pokémon Sleep to assess the effects of this new exercise based on user sleep recordings and surveys, alongside an experimental study using sleep EEG meters.

The analysis demonstrated that users who practiced relaxation exercises for three or more days experienced a notable reduction in the time it took to fall asleep. Specifically, on nights when the Hoge-Taisou exercises were performed, the average time taken to fall asleep was recorded at 19.2 minutes, compared to 19.6 minutes on nights without the exercises. This 0.4-minute difference translates to a significant 2% improvement. The results were particularly encouraging for users who normally struggle to fall asleep, showing an average reduction in time taken to fall asleep by approximately 5.7%, or 2.0 minutes.

Further insights were gathered through an EEG study, comparing sleep quality on nights following smartphone use with nights when Hoge-Taisou was practiced. The results indicated that sleep efficiency improved by an impressive 3.2% on nights when relaxation exercises were performed. Additionally, the time spent awake during the night decreased, and the quality of sleep overall showed marked improvements, underpinned by the increase in REM sleep proportion, from 22.7% to 25.7%.

Professor Masafumi Yanagisawa of Tsukuba University, a leading expert in sleep research and a supervisor for Pokémon Sleep, emphasized the positive changes in sleep patterns due to the implementation of these relaxation methods. "The introduction of Hoge-Taisou can be a friendly practice for anyone, contributing positively to their nightly routines and overall sleep quality," he stated.

Additionally, one significant observation from the study involved a 40-year-old female participant who reported a smoother transition to sleep after incorporating the exercises, evidencing the tangible benefits on an individual level.

Summary of Findings

1. User Survey Results: A significant shortening of time taken to fall asleep was confirmed on nights when Hoge-Taisou was executed.
2. Enhanced Sleep for Difficult Cases: For those who typically struggle with sleep, the benefits were even more pronounced with improved metrics observed.
3. EEG Measurement Outcomes: Notable increase in sleep efficiency by 3.2% compared to nights with regular smartphone activity.

Engaging in the Hoge-Taisou routine not only facilitates relaxed states but also enhances the quality of sleep experienced by Pokémon Sleep users. The practice is recommended as a nightly routine that could lead to better sleep habits and overall wellness.
