Enhancing Self-Presentation Skills: One Career and Adobe's Collaborative Seminar for Students
In an effort to assist students in honing their creative skills for the job market, One Career (operating in Shibuya, Tokyo) and Adobe co-hosted a seminar on June 12, 2025, aimed at university and graduate students graduating in 2027. As an initiative geared towards enhancing self-presentation skills, this seminar was the culmination of a collaborative project between the two organizations that began in March 2024.
The Background of the Seminar
To address the challenges many students face in the job search, such as not knowing their strengths or how to express themselves effectively, One Career and Adobe partnered to promote creative approaches to self-presentation. Earlier this year, they integrated the job-seeking platform ONE CAREER with Adobe Express, an all-in-one content creation application. This integration enabled students to combine text, images, illustrations, and graphics within ONE CAREER, helping them to develop personalized self-presentation sheets that articulate their unique strengths. In May 2025, they launched the campaign titled "#ES自由化宣言" with the slogan "Your individuality is your weapon" to promote non-standard, creative self-presentation methods.
The seminar was designed as part of these initiatives, aiming to teach effective self-analysis and skillful presentation creation to instill confidence in students during their job search journey.
Seminar Highlights
The seminar adopted a multifaceted approach to enhance the participants' self-presentation skills, structured around several key components:
Discovering Strengths with the StrengthsFinder
Kickstarting the event, Adobe’s Talent Development Partner, Tamari Ogawa, conducted a session on the StrengthsFinder. Participants identified their strengths, qualities, and behavioral tendencies using this tool developed by Gallup. With results in hand, attendees shared anecdotes and experiences related to their identified strengths, fostering discussions that would help in constructing compelling self-presentation narratives.
Structuring Self-Presentation from the Interviewer's Perspective
Next, Sakuko Iwano, a career advisor from One Career, elaborated on how to create impactful self-presentations by viewing it from the interviewer’s perspective. Iwano emphasized the importance of showcasing one’s character and motives for applying to the company, which can differentiate candidates in a competitive job market. Participants learned how to structure their presentations by concentrating on defining their strengths through specific examples involving scenes, challenges, actions, and results.
Creative Self-Presentation Using Adobe Express
As the seminar proceeded, illustrator and character designer Naoki Kitazawa guided participants through the final step: creating visually appealing self-presentation materials using Adobe Express. Kitazawa covered fundamental layout and design principles before showing how to select optimized templates within the platform. Participants edited and arranged their images, text, and highlights, creating self-presentation sheets that effectively conveyed their individuality.
Insights from Influencer Shun Diary
The event featured a special appearance by Shun Diary, a popular job-search YouTuber with over 280,000 subscribers. Shun shared insights from his job search journey and highlighted the importance of taking action in the job searching process. He advised participants to let their true selves shine through their actions, reinforcing the seminar's core message of authenticity.
Participant Feedback
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing how the seminar's structure and content had greatly elucidated various aspects of self-presentation:
- - “I was able to understand the writing of ES and my strengths through the StrengthsFinder in a way that will definitely help my future job search.”
- - “The practical nature of the sessions, including creating a self-presentation image, was very valuable.”
- - “Utilizing Adobe Express for font choices and image placements was an eye-opener; I want to keep using it in my school projects.”
- - “The seminar allowed me to express my true self, differentiating my ES from others, which I found incredibly beneficial.”
Future Prospects
Looking ahead, One Career and Adobe plan to continue their collaboration through seminars and product integrations designed to empower students in effectively showcasing their strengths and enhancing their self-expression.
