In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing marine education and stewardship, Arizona State University (ASU) has announced the launch of two comprehensive online undergraduate degrees focusing on ocean futures. As the largest component of our planet, covering over 70% of its surface, oceans play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity and stabilizing climate. However, with significant environmental changes threatening their health, there is a pressing need for trained professionals equipped to address these challenges.

Both programs—the Bachelor of Science in Ocean Futures and the Bachelor of Science in Ocean Futures with an emphasis on Coastal and Marine Science Management—are now available through ASU Online, offering flexibility for learners nationwide and globally. Dean Miki Kittilson expressed enthusiasm for this expansion, emphasizing the importance of making a premier education accessible to future leaders in ocean stewardship.

ASU is notably the first landlocked university in the U.S. to provide such specialized online degrees in ocean sciences, joining a select group of institutions offering similar programs.
