A New Era for Chinese Tourism



On March 5, 2026, representatives from the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) visited HonTrip's booth at the prestigious ITB Berlin, signaling a pivotal moment for the rapidly changing landscape of China's tourism market. This visit fostered an important dialogue centered around the industry’s transition from growth driven mainly by volume to a more sophisticated, quality-oriented approach.

From Quantity to Quality



The discussions at the ITB highlighted an industry-wide shift towards prioritizing quality and personalization in travel experiences. WTCF representatives emphasized that the integration of technology with cultural heritage is instrumental in shaping the future of inbound travel to China. They noted, "China's tourism market is experiencing a profound structural transformation where quality and personalization are the new priorities."

This transformation is supported by significant recovery indicators. In 2024, China welcomed a remarkable 132 million inbound tourists, reflecting a staggering 60% year-on-year increase, with total tourism revenue surging to $94.2 billion, an 80% rise. Key cities like Beijing are leading this recovery with visitor numbers rebounding to 150% of pre-pandemic levels. Other cities, such as Shanghai and Shenzhen, also show promising recovery rates of 117% and 139%, respectively.

Four Key Trends Defining China's Tourism Evolution



During the visit, HonTrip outlined four main trends shaping this new tourism environment:
