Fermi America Introduces Dynamic Duo to Lead Nuclear Power Initiatives in Texas
Fermi America Welcomes Industry Leaders to Accelerate Nuclear Power Delivery
Fermi America, in a transformative move, has named two experienced nuclear developers, Mesut and Sezin Uzman, to take charge of its nuclear power initiatives. This strategic appointment comes in partnership with the Texas Tech University System, aiming to construct what is envisioned to be the largest advanced energy and artificial intelligence campus globally, starting from Amarillo, Texas.
Elevated Roles at Fermi America
In this new chapter for Fermi America, Mesut Uzman steps in as the Chief Nuclear Officer, while Sezin Uzman assumes the role of Vice President for Nuclear Supply Chain and Compliance. Their extensive backgrounds in managing complex nuclear projects are expected to be pivotal in achieving the ambitious goals of the company, particularly as they look to generate 11 gigawatts (GW) of clean energy, with 6 GW sourced from new nuclear generation at the Amarillo campus.
Rick Perry, Co-Founder of Fermi America, emphasized the critical nature of these appointments, stating that these seasoned professionals are crucial for the timely and budget-conscious delivery of the Fermi project. Toby Neugebauer, also a Co-Founder, added that America needs leaders who can execute proven strategies, especially in the nuclear sector, which has seen significant challenges and setbacks in recent years. The Uzmans, with their impressive track records, are expected to guide Fermi in overcoming these hurdles and lead the race toward sustainable nuclear energy.
Mesut Uzman's Proven Expertise
Mesut Uzman brings with him over 20 years of comprehensive experience in nuclear engineering, having successfully led numerous projects across the United Arab Emirates and China. His impressive portfolio includes significant roles in the construction and commissioning of nuclear power plants, notably the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, recognized as a major leap toward civilian nuclear capabilities in the Arab region. His expertise lies in navigating complex regulatory landscapes and managing diverse international teams—all essential skills for Fermi America as it gears up for its nuclear ambition.
Mesut's understanding of the AP1000 reactor design, which Fermi plans to deploy, further solidifies his suitability for this role. His vision and strategic direction are expected to not only enhance operational efficacy but also foster innovation within the nuclear sector at Fermi America.
Sezin Uzman's Role in Supply Chain and Compliance
In her capacity as Vice President of Nuclear Supply Chain and Compliance, Sezin Uzman possesses a wealth of experience that bridges the gap between regulatory requirements and operational execution. Over her extensive career, she has excelled in key roles at major nuclear entities such as Westinghouse and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation. Sezin's efforts in advocating for operational efficiencies and women's leadership within the nuclear industry have earned her widespread respect.
Her leadership was instrumental in the establishment of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, focusing on regulatory compliance and overseeing vital organizational transformations. As Fermi America prepares to embark on its nuclear projects, Sezin's insights into compliance and supply chain management will be indispensable to ensure seamless operations and adherence to regulatory standards.
Looking Ahead: Future Developments at Fermi America
Fermi America has already made significant strides in its nuclear project preparations, having submitted its Combined License (COL) application for new nuclear reactors to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in June 2025. Approval for the COL is imminent, and construction is set to commence shortly thereafter, with an eye towards initiating nuclear power generation by 2032.
In tandem with nuclear developments, Fermi America is securing additional clean energy resources to cater to initial demands, having already arranged over 600 MW of clean gas-fired generation to support the early roll-out of 1 GW of energy by the end of 2026.
In summary, the appointment of Mesut and Sezin Uzman is a strategic maneuver by Fermi America to accelerate its nuclear power delivery initiatives. With their extensive expertise and demonstrated success in the nuclear sector, they are poised to lead the charge toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy future, paving the way for revolutionary advancements in artificial intelligence applications and energy generation.
