PowerX Receives Major Order from NTT Anode Energy
In a significant development for Japan's energy landscape, PowerX, headquartered in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, has secured a substantial contract from NTT Anode Energy, based in Minato Ward, Tokyo. This order is for 28 units of the energy storage system "Mega Power 2700A," totaling an impressive capacity of 76.7 MWh. The systems are destined for a newly established large-scale system-connected energy storage facility in Tomakomai City, Hokkaido.
Project Overview
The new high-pressure energy storage facility, named the "Hokkaido Tomakomai Energy Storage Facility," is scheduled to commence operations in fiscal 2028. By connecting to the power grid in Hokkaido, this facility will play a crucial role in stabilizing the electricity supply and demand balance, simultaneously promoting an increased integration of renewable energy sources throughout the region.
This initiative is aligned with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's (METI) support under the "Subsidy Program for the Expansion of Renewable Energy in FY2024," which endorses the introduction of power storage systems like the one provided by PowerX.
Background and Collaboration
PowerX and NTT Anode Energy have already collaborated successfully on their first project, the "Fukuoka Wakamatsu Energy Storage Facility," which was completed in April 2025. Currently, they are developing high-pressure energy storage facilities at six locations nationwide, and the Tomakomai facility marks their eighth site. Notably, this project is set to exceed the scale of previous endeavors and is the first high-pressure energy storage facility of its kind for both companies.
