Symposium on Growth Strategy for Japan's Animation Industry Scheduled for April 3, 2026

On April 3, 2026, a significant symposium titled "Sustainable Development of Japan's Animation Industry: A Dual Strategy for Human Resource Development and Overseas Market Expansion" is set to take place at the House of Representatives in Tokyo. This event is co-hosted by prominent organizations such as the Japan Animation Association, the Japan Information Law Institute (JILIS), and the Video Industry Strategy Promotion Research Group (VIS).

This symposium aims to provide a platform for industry leaders and policymakers to discuss the structural challenges facing Japan's animation sector, which has seen its market size exceed 3.38 trillion yen. Despite its growth, issues such as inadequate revenue distribution to production sites, a severe talent shortage, and weak negotiation power in international markets persist.

The focus of the symposium will revolve around two main themes derived from previous discussions within the VIS group: establishing effective human resource development and certification systems, and crafting strategies for enhancing overseas sales and market reach. The event will serve as a venue for concrete policy proposals that align with the government's long-term strategic policies.

Background Information

Japan's animation industry, which has reached a market size exceeding 3.38 trillion yen, is hailed as a pillar industry by the government.
