Hunan's Investment Opportunities Shine at 2026 Economic Conference in Germany and Switzerland

Hunan's Economic Expansion Efforts in Europe

From October 27 to November 1, 2026, Germany and Switzerland hosted the annual Hunan-Europe economic and trade collaboration conference. This event stands as a key platform where Hunan Province promotes its investment environment and business opportunities to potential European investors. The conference has been a recurring fixture since its inception in 2023, consolidating Hunan's position as a vital hub for international trade and cooperation.

The importance of this initiative cannot be understated as it aligns with Hunan's strategy to emerge as a leading inland center for reform and international engagement. During the discussions held in Germany, the focus shifted to sectors such as advanced manufacturing and the automotive industry. Liu Suyue, deputy director of the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce, emphasized in her keynote address that over 37 reputable German companies, including industry giants like Bosch, Volkswagen, Schaeffler, and BASF, are operational in Hunan, significantly contributing to the province’s economic landscape.

Notably, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), enterprises funded by German investments in Hunan posted an impressive revenue growth of 117%. Liu's presentation also highlighted Hunan's participation in the 10th Sino-German Automotive Congress that coincided with the economic collaboration meeting. This congress serves as a pivotal platform for fostering dialogue between the Chinese and German automotive sectors, allowing Hunan to strategically align its automotive industry with global supply chains.

In 2025, Hunan emerged as a substantial production hub for vehicles, boasting an output of 1.626 million vehicles. The provincial landscape is home to renowned automakers such as BYD, Geely, GAC Aion, and Volkswagen, showcasing its capabilities in advanced manufacturing with five national-level clusters dedicated to this sector. Furthermore, five local companies rank among the world’s top 50 construction machinery manufacturers, underscoring Hunan’s manufacturing prowess.

Transitioning to Switzerland, the conference saw a business matchmaking event concentrated on biomedicine and artificial intelligence, honing in on life sciences, healthcare, and intelligent technologies. Liu introduced the concept of “5C” to describe Hunan's appeal as a prime investment destination: affordability (Cost), a broad consumer base, competitive industry clusters, reputable colleges, and overall convenience as significant factors for German and Swiss investors. Liu stressed that Hunan is poised to deliver robust industrial supply chains, open investment platforms, and efficient services to foreign enterprises, positioning itself as a favorable entry point into the Chinese market.

Looking ahead, Hunan Province is dedicated to broadening its cooperation pathways with European nations. The government aims to accelerate projects that are in the discussion phase and is committed to solidifying the “Invest in Hunan” brand within European markets. This strategic initiative not only aims to boost investment flows but also seeks to create enduring economic ties between Hunan and its European counterparts. By nurturing these connections, Hunan is keen on becoming a go-to destination for international businesses looking to expand their footprint in China.

In conclusion, the Hunan-Europe economic and trade collaboration conference was a remarkable step towards reinforcing the existing ties and developing new opportunities for cross-border collaborations. Hunan’s active engagement in Europe showcases its readiness to welcome international investments and its potential for growth in various sectors, particularly in advanced manufacturing and high-tech industries. As Hunan continues to evolve, the future looks promising for European investors keen on tapping into the dynamic Chinese market.
