Segway Celebrates HKQAA Award for Sustainable Innovation and Eco-Friendly Technology Advances
Segway Receives HKQAA Award for Sustainability
Segway, a renowned name in the mobility solutions sector, has recently been honored with the Green and Sustainable Innovation and Technology Contribution Award by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA). This accolade was presented during the HKQAA Green and Livable City Innovation Technology Forum held at Hong Kong Science Park on December 17, 2025. The recognition underscores Segway's relentless efforts towards sustainable product development and its commitment to clean energy leadership in urban mobility.
Commitment to Sustainable Design
Since its inception, Segway has prioritized sustainability in both product design and manufacturing. The company has been ahead of the curve, embedding eco-friendly principles into its operations well before they became industry standards. Among the standout products exemplifying this shift are the Apex D110 and Max S90L shared e-scooters, which have been recognized through various sustainability assessments, including the Industry First Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This globally acknowledged evaluation method helps gauge a product's total environmental impact from the extraction of raw materials to its end-of-life, reinforcing Segway's adherence to internationally recognized sustainability metrics.
In 2025, Segway made significant strides toward incorporating recycled materials into its e-scooter models. The Apex D110, Max Plus X, and Max S90L boast recycled content percentages of approximately 36.5%, 31.84%, and 30.16% respectively. This initiative reflects Segway's belief that sustainable design can be both market-ready and operationally efficient, emphasizing their commitment to delivering eco-conscious solutions that resonate with the demands of modern urban environments.
Green Production Initiatives
Segway's plant also integrates renewable energy, utilizing a solar power system installed on its rooftop. This system not only powers the production facility but also contributes excess clean electricity back to the regional grid. Between June and August 2025, over 65% of the facility’s energy came from renewable sources. This initiative not only alleviates the environmental footprint of Segway's production but directly benefits the local community through the distribution of surplus energy. Segway's renewable energy contributions are documented via Green Energy Certificates (GECs), with 143 certificates generated during the latter half of the year.
As Zack Yan, Vice General Manager of Segway's Commercial Mobility Division, stated, "Integrating green power into our production processes and feeding surplus energy back to the national grid validates not only our environmental responsibility but reflects how shared micromobility fits into the bigger picture." Segway's commitment to green energy aligns with broader national and international goals for low-carbon urban development.
Building a Sustainable Supply Chain
Moreover, Segway understands that sustainability is a collective goal requiring collaboration across its supply chain. To instill green practices, Segway engages all supply chain partners with shared sustainability objectives. The company hosts an annual Supply Chain Convention aimed at fostering innovation and improving product efficiency collaboratively with partners.
A fundamental aspect of this effort is a comprehensive supply chain management system that upholds stringent sustainability criteria. This includes a dedicated incentive mechanism integrated into the supplier audit process to encourage ongoing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) advancements among partners.
As Segway continues to gain recognition through awards like the HKQAA accolade, it is poised to further enhance its role as a leader in sustainable mobility solutions. By intertwining innovative design, clean energy production, and an engaged supplier ecosystem, Segway is paving the way for scalable low-carbon mobility, ready for global implementation. The company is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what sustainable micromobility entails, proving that it is not only viable but essential for our urban futures.
