Introduction
Palette Inc., based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has announced a significant change at their employment transition support facility, ColorsLABO. Beginning in October 2026 and continuing until April 2027, ColorsLABO will transition to a multifunctional facility, incorporating independence training alongside existing employment training support for individuals with disabilities.
Background of the Transition
For years, ColorsLABO has focused on helping individuals with disabilities acquire essential IT skills and reskilling education. The facility has successfully trained users in various professional skills, including engineering, web design, web marketing, graphic design, and video editing. Palette has been dedicated to supporting users from securing jobs to maintaining their positions.
However, recent trends indicate a growing demand for basic support aimed at fostering independence. Many individuals express a desire to first stabilize their daily routines and develop basic communication skills before transitioning into the workforce. Recognizing this shift, Palette has decided to broaden their support services by transitioning ColorsLABO into a multifunctional facility that incorporates independence training, drawing on the expertise and methodologies refined through their existing project, eSTUDIO, in Mito.
New Support Model
The multifunctional facility is set to introduce several new programs within the independence training framework, including:
- - Self-Understanding: Self-analysis, career planning, and understanding disability characteristics.
- - Stabilizing Daily Routines: Self-care, sleep science, nutrition, and stress management.
- - Communication Skills: Active listening, assertion training, and social skills training (SST).
- - Communication Training Using eSports: Engaging participants through innovative formats.
Moreover, the current IT and creative educational content provided under the employment transition curriculum will be adapted for independence training, allowing participants to explore learning opportunities at their own pace before fully committing to formal study.
Integration of Services
As part of this transition, the independence training center, eSTUDIO, will integrate its functions and knowledge into ColorsLABO, optimizing service provision and ensuring a seamless training experience for participants.
Timeline for Implementation
The transition to a multifunctional facility is scheduled to commence gradually from October 2026. Specifically, the ColorsLABO facility in Okayama will launch its independence training services on November 1, 2026, co-located with the new satellite office, Canvas Okayama. Other locations will also progress towards the multifunctional business model according to the plan.
Future Outlook
Palette aims to create a more flexible support system by combining independence training and employment transition services. This approach is designed to cater to each individual’s unique circumstances and characteristics, facilitating their journey from independence to employment and subsequently to professional success. By integrating learning opportunities in IT and creative fields with independence training, Palette will help users build an environment conducive to growth and personal achievement.
