MIC Global and inDrive Enhance Insurance Coverage to Benefit Millions Globally
Expanding Protection for Drivers and Passengers
In a progressive step towards enhancing safety and support for the gig economy, MIC Global and inDrive have announced the expansion of their insurance partnership to cover 18 countries. This initiative aims to provide comprehensive insurance coverage to millions of drivers and passengers who rely on the inDrive platform for mobility and delivery services. The newly introduced trip-level policy offers protection against various risks, including medical expenses arising from accidents during rides.
The Birth of inDrive
Founded on January 1, 2012, in Yakutsk, Siberia, inDrive emerged as a response to exorbitant taxi fare increases amid freezing temperatures. Driven residents took it upon themselves to negotiate fair fares through social media. This spirit of collaboration and community prompted the creation of a platform that prioritizes driver and customer fairness. Today, inDrive has broadened its reach, operating in over 1,200 cities across 48 countries, ensuring that users have access to affordable transportation options.
Addressing Unique Insurance Challenges
Traditional insurance models often struggle to adapt to the dynamic and diverse nature of ridesharing platforms, which span different countries with varying regulatory environments. These conventional insurers commonly operate with a static view of risks, which does not align with the unpredictable conditions under which gig economy participants operate. This is where MIC Global steps in, offering a solution tailored specifically for the unique challenges presented in this marketplace.
Crafted for short-duration, event-driven coverage, MIC Global’s parametric micro insurance integrates automated claims processes with embedded insurance models. By utilizing platform data for claims adjudication, they eliminate cumbersome paperwork, enabling swift responses that enhance user experience.
Growth of the Partnership
The partnership between MIC Global and inDrive initially launched in 2024, covering inDrive drivers and passengers in three countries. Just two years later, they have expanded their reach to 18 nations—a feat that signifies significant strides in compliance and operational challenges across multiple markets. Each region presents its own regulatory framework, and MIC Global manages compliance while maintaining cohesive underwriting principles. This approach ensures a consistent policy structure while adapting to local intricacies.
Andries Smit, Chief Growth Business Officer at inDrive, emphasized the company’s foundation built on community service rather than extraction. “By extending real financial protection...across 25 countries, we honor the principles that guide our operations.
