Discover the Unique Stand-Up Soba Experience with Tsukaji in Yokohama!

Discovering Local Favorites: A Stand-Up Soba Adventure in Yokohama

On a delightful journey through Kanagawa, Tsukaji from the comedic duo Drunk Dragon sets the stage for a culinary exploration. Starting his adventure in the town of Kamoi, he immerses himself in the local culture, reminiscing about past visits driven by his love for trendy shops.

During his stroll, he stumbles upon a stylish select shop that brings back memories of the 90s era, as he fondly recalls, "There was a time for America Casual and Shibukaji..." With a twinkle in his eye, Tsukaji browses through the eccentric collection, eventually falling in love with a T-shirt featuring a pig illustration, prompting laughter and a touch of self-deprecation as he humorously recalls making a purchase after shooting.

The Stand-Up Soba Shop

His primary destination is a charming stand-up soba shop located in Kawamukucho, with a signboard that reads, "100% Buckwheat Noodles, Directly from the Farm." The excitement is palpable as he enters a space that was once a flower shop; remnants of floral decor provide a unique ambiance. This soba shop is well known for its commitment to quality, serving noodles made from buckwheat flour ground fresh in-house every morning.

Diners can choose from four types of noodles, including 100% buckwheat, 80% buckwheat, and varieties resembling country-style and more refined textures, making it easy to suit one's mood. The broth offers a rich blend of soy sauce and bonito, striking a sweet-savory balance.

Tsukaji mentions a regular customer who visits the shop three to four times a week, often ordering a set menu minus the pork cutlet. Curious newcomers sample the dishes; one young guest delightedly shares, "It's incredibly delicious. You must try it!" Tsukaji takes the shop staff's advice and orders the "two-color chili oil soba," which features both country-style and refined soba. The cooking time is a mere 38 seconds, showcasing the swift service and mastery of noodle preparation.

As he savors the dish, Tsukaji is impressed by the perfect balance of spicy chili oil and the distinct flavors of the different soba types presented together. "It's amazing to have both elegant soba and the rustic style in one bowl. The flavor appeals to a diverse crowd," he muses, unable to put down his chopsticks. Finally, he concludes with hot soba water, relishing the moment.

Second Stop: A Delightful Encounter in Tokyo

Tsukaji's culinary adventure does not end in Yokohama. His journey continues to Heiwajima in Tokyo, where he encounters a massive shrimp tempura soba that leaves him thoroughly satisfied. The excitement escalates as he sneaks into the Hato Bus headquarters, where he has a heartwarming interaction with the company’s mascot.

This delightful exploration, filled with unique tastes and endearing moments, showcases Tsukaji's journey across Japan, celebrating stand-up soba culture with humor and heartfelt interaction.
