On October 14th, a baby Cape Penguin was born at the Sunshine Aquarium, and now it's time for visitors to help choose a name for this adorable newcomer. From November 21st to 30th, you can cast your vote for a name, and the winning name will be announced on December 6th at 11:00 AM near the Marine Garden's 'Prairie Penguins' tank. This event presents a unique opportunity to witness the growth of the baby penguin, which has impressed caretakers with its rapid development.
At only two days old, the baby weighed just 68 grams, roughly the weight of a chocolate bar. However, as of November 13th, the little one had gained an impressive weight of 1,955 grams at the age of 30 days. The staff at the aquarium have expressed their astonishment at this remarkable growth rate. In its habitat in the 'Prairie Penguins' tank, visitors can see the baby penguin interact with its parents and observe its charming appearances.
During the voting period, attendees are encouraged to not only appreciate the adorable sight of the fluffy baby penguin but also participate in choosing its name from four thoughtfully selected candidates. Each name suggestion carries a meaningful reason:
1.
Pinkuru - A catchy name derived from the first letters of the parents' names (Pinku Lime and Kurumi), aiming to make it memorable for everyone.
2.
Cosmo - Inspired by the colors of the parents’ rings, reminiscent of pink cherry blossoms in autumn and symbolizing harmony among the penguins.
3.
Donguri - Named after acorns, a familiar and cute symbol, reflecting the parent’s name Kurumi and the autumn timing of birth.
4.
Maron - A name inspired by autumn, designed to be easy to say so that many visitors will enjoy calling the penguin.
Voting will occur through scanning a QR code or pressing a vote button located near the 'Sky Penguins' tank, with a limited offer for participants: a special image of the baby penguin will be provided to those who vote via the QR code.
Furthermore, limited-edition 'Baby Cape Penguin Business Cards' will be distributed daily from the name announcement until December 12th, giving fans a tangible memory of this enchanting baby penguin during its early fluff-covered days.
The love and attentiveness of the parents—Kurumi (female) and Pinku Lime (male)—are evident as they care for their first chick together. The incubation itself was a heartwarming journey, with caretakers eagerly waiting for the birth. The process of hatching takes about one to two days, and the staff experienced nervous anticipation leading up to this moment.
Now, not only can guests enjoy watching the fluffy little penguin grow, but they can also play an active role in naming it. The rapid growth is remarkable, as the chick reached around 2,000 grams within just a month of its birth. After approximately 70 days, the fluffy down feathers will start to shed, and soon the penguin will begin to resemble its adult form, preparing for a life of independence and feeding themselves.
This baby Cape Penguin's early days are truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for visitors, and there's no better time than now to witness it in its charming glory.
