In an effort to enhance governance and educational support for Alaska Natives, Alaska Pacific University (APU) has updated its organizational framework by introducing a novel three-tiered membership model. This model is designed to foster collaboration and shared leadership alongside Alaska's tribes and organizations, building on the university's previous accomplishments since becoming tribally governed in 2016.

This evolved structure not only continues the university's commitment to Tribal governance but also actively invites participation from various stakeholders including Tribes and Tribal organizations. The university has expressed deep appreciation for its long-standing collaboration with the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC), which now prioritizes statewide health services for Alaska Native and American Indian communities, consequently allowing APU to focus solely on educational initiatives.

Understanding the Membership Model
The new membership model comprises three distinct tiers: Stewardship, Associate, and Allied Membership.
