Singapore Strengthens Its AI Ecosystem

In a significant move to enhance its artificial intelligence (AI) framework, Singapore has established new global partnerships aimed at transitioning its AI industry from theoretical exploration to real-world deployment. This initiative was highlighted at the recent ATxSummit 2026, organized by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). Minister for Digital Development and Information, Mrs. Josephine Teo, announced these initiatives, showcasing Singapore’s ambition to become a leading AI hub.

The emphasis of this shift is not merely about the development of AI tools but also about the effective implementation and governance of AI systems that can deliver substantive impacts on the community and economy. As outlined by the Economic Strategic Review committee, Singapore is aiming to be a trusted center for the development, testing, and deployment of AI solutions that tackle real-world problems at scale.

Collaborations and Testbeds

One notable collaboration involves IMDA teaming up with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and several industry leaders, including Certis, DHL, and Grab, to bring physical AI to life. This initiative will establish a testbed at the Punggol Digital District (PDD), Singapore's first fully integrated public space dedicated to physical AI solutions. This area will serve as a proving ground for various robotics services like food and parcel delivery, security patrols, and cleaning services, complementing human operations.

The project aims to develop embodied AI (EAI) capabilities within Singapore. EAI refers to the integration of AI systems in physical forms that can perceive, reason, and act in the environment. Collaborations with FieldAI and Thoughtworks, alongside other tech firms, will promote the development of EAI use cases through the new Centre for Intelligent Robotics at PDD.

Enhancing Research Capabilities

In a bid to bolster its manufacturing prowess, NVIDIA is set to launch an AI research lab in Singapore. This lab will focus on embodied AI and efficient AI computing—two essential domains for expanding Singapore's technological edge. The partnership with local universities and industry players aims to innovate solutions that can optimize cost and energy efficiency while making AI systems scalable.

AI for Public Benefit

The government's efforts are complemented by additional partnerships with notable tech giants like Google and OpenAI.
