Florida Atlantic University Unveils New Campus for FAU Lab Schools



On November 24, 2025, Florida Atlantic University marked a significant milestone in education by officially inaugurating its new Boca Raton campus for the A.D. Henderson University School and Florida Atlantic University High School. The ceremony, which featured a symbolic ribbon-cutting event, showcased a cutting-edge facility spread across nearly 62,000 square feet. This modern complex replaces the older structure built in 1968, signifying a new era for K-12 education in the region.

A Commitment to Educational Excellence



FAU President Adam Hasner spoke passionately about the advancements represented by the new campus. "A.D. Henderson and FAU High School not only set the standard for excellence but are redefining what K-12 education can look like," he expressed. He acknowledged the contributions of community members who helped bring the vision of this state-of-the-art facility to fruition. Hasner emphasized that the success of the FAU Lab Schools has attracted visitors from all over the nation and beyond, eager to learn how the schools achieve such remarkable educational outcomes.

At the heart of the new campus lies the Marcus Research and Innovation Center, an unrivaled facility in the realm of K-12 education. Designed to nurture the next generation of researchers and innovators, this center will tackle some of the most pressing challenges of society. Within this center is the Biodesign Research Hub, which fosters student engagement in groundbreaking research.

A Hub of Innovation and Learning



Students at the FAU Lab Schools have the opportunity to work in various specialized labs, including the Berlin Family Bioimaging Lab, the Wahoo Bay Ocean Sciences and Conservation Lab, the Neuroscience Lab, and the Simulated Operating Room Lab. The prominent facility also includes essential resources such as a dark room and the Manjit Kaur High-Performance Computing Lab.

Additionally, the complex features a Biomechanics Lab, dedicated spaces for robotics, and alternative fuel vehicles through the initiatives of The Cane Institute for Advanced Technologies. Furthermore, students can explore aerial technology at the Skylab for drone and flight programs and engage in rapid prototyping in the dedicated lab equipped with advanced 3D printers and laser cutters.

The campus entrance showcases a grand two-story K-8 building coupled with a multi-purpose athletic complex. The design also includes a university-level lecture hall aimed at enriching student experiences, hosting activities such as mock trials, Model United Nations, and research presentations.

Moreover, students will benefit from an innovative archaeological dig site that brings history and mathematics to life, while the combined robotic farming and drone Agricultural space integrates agricultural sciences and robotics, showcasing the future of education in these fields. They also have access to an aquatic facility, which includes a swimming pool and a dedicated training area for national and international marine robotics competitions. The outdoor athletic area features a synthetic turf track and soccer field, designed for various sports activities.

The administrative building serves as a focal point for faculty development, reinforcing an ongoing commitment to educational research and innovation. Joel Herbst, Vice President for PK-12 pre-baccalaureate programs and Superintendent of FAU Lab Schools, proudly stated, "Our faculty and staff are the architects of signature student experiences." They are committed to taking students on extraordinary adventures that encompass a variety of disciplines, sparking curiosity and igniting a passion for discovery.

Thanks to the backing of the Florida legislature, which allocated $2 million last session toward creating the Center for Educational Strategy and Innovation, ADHUS aims to revolutionize educational strategies and boost student outcomes in Florida. This center is pivotal to scaling STEM education across institutions, making strides toward reshaping public education nationwide.

Since its inception on September 16, 1968, A.D. Henderson University School began as a laboratory school dedicated to enhancing educational methods and outcomes across the country. The school was established with the generous support of Lucy Henderson, honoring her late husband. The success of ADHUS led to the foundation of FAU High School in 2004, which embraces an early college model. As both institutions continue to thrive, their commitment to excellence has been recognized multiple times; they have been awarded the National Blue Ribbon School designation and have been rated among the best public schools in the nation.
