More Than 4,100 Brands Showcase at the 5th China International Consumer Products Expo
On April 13, 2025, the 5th edition of the China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) kicked off in Haikou, Hainan's capital. This year's event gathered 1,700 participating companies from over 70 countries, showcasing a staggering 4,100 brands. Notably, the United Kingdom was the honored guest country, inaugurating its pavilion on the opening day.
The expo highlighted significant transformations compared to previous years. First-time exhibitors from Slovakia, Singapore, and Brazil participated, showcasing a diverse range of products, particularly in specialized zones for artificial intelligence (AI) and low-altitude economy sectors. A new supply-demand matching model was introduced, featuring pre-event online communications followed by in-person negotiations, aimed at ensuring effective collaboration.
By April 16, approximately 150 billion yuan (about $20.56 billion) worth of transactions had been recorded, with 52 major project agreements signed during three official meetings focused on matching supply with demand. Notably, 20 agreements were clinched at sessions tailored to specific countries, emphasizing the growing synergy between Chinese and international exhibitors across various public market projects.
The Annual CICPE also served as a vibrant hub for new collaborations and orders across multiple sectors including autonomous driving, smart transportation infrastructure, and intelligent travel services. Unitree Robotics from Hangzhou showcased its cutting-edge robotic products and received numerous orders related to scientific research and public safety initiatives.
Additionally, the Fosun tourism group announced the launch of ULTRAMED, a significant cultural and tourism project at Haitang Bay in Sanya, further enriching the region's appeal.
In a refreshing departure from the past, international exhibitors and buyers benefited from streamlined visa policies, enabling participants from 59 countries to enter Hainan without visas, making the expo more accessible and inviting. Hainan's proactive regional policies facilitated cross-border service trade, improving market entry for foreign investments, while customs operations in the free trade port area were enhanced.
William Huang, the managing partner at EY China South, indicated that the CICPE, coupled with Hainan's favorable development conditions, would attract more multinational companies to strengthen their presence in the province. With these structural changes, Hainan's institutional opening advantages are becoming more pronounced, amplifying investment opportunities in this dynamic market.
Through initiatives like the CICPE, Hainan is positioning itself as a global player in the consumer goods sector while fostering unprecedented international connections and exchanges, thereby accelerating its economic growth and innovation potential.
