On November 13, 2025, the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (HKG: 0386), commonly known as Sinopec, held a significant event in Algiers for the concluding selection and awards ceremony of their initiative, "In Search of Youth Cultural Ambassadors between China and Algeria." This initiative aims to highlight and celebrate the stories of young individuals promoting bilateral cooperation from their unique perspectives, effectively strengthening ties between the two nations.

Five exceptional contestants were awarded the title of Youth Cultural Ambassadors, acknowledged for their commitment to sharing narratives that foster understanding and cooperation between China and Algeria. This event served not just as a competition but as a vital platform emphasizing cultural exchange and collaboration, reinforcing the strategic goals set forth in the Youth Development initiative within the broader framework of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum.

Yongsheng Yu, the managing director of the Sinopec Group’s brand department, underscored the company's dedication to balancing energy efforts with cultural collaboration in Africa. He affirmed, "These young ambassadors exemplify how cultural exchanges can inject new vitality, acting as an essential link for mutual understanding."

Smail Debbache, president of the Algeria-China Friendship Association, praised the program for building communication bridges between the youth of both countries. He pointed out that this initiative not only showcases the diversity and attractiveness of their cultures but also highlights Sinopec’s proactive role in encouraging mutual learning and building warm relationships.

Algerian Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, reflected on her own experiences with Chinese philosophy during her youth, particularly the lasting influence of Confucian ideals. She encouraged young people from both nations to serve as cultural ambassadors, fostering enduring connections through exchanges and cross-generational friendships.

Guo Jianjun, the economic and commercial counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Algeria, highlighted the deep-rooted friendship that dates back to the ancient Silk Road, which continues to flourish under the Belt and Road Initiative. He expressed hope that the youth would embrace openness and innovation, paving the way for new chapters of cooperation.

Since its inception, the program has attracted a notable number of Gen Z participants. Algerian youth submitted 165 entries, including short videos and vlogs that spotlighted narratives surrounding the Belt and Road Initiative and the bilateral relations between Algeria and China. Following multiple rounds of evaluation, 30 pieces reached the semifinals, with 15 finalists competing on stage before the selection of the final five ambassadors.
