PlanetPlay Launches Campaign to Mobilize Gamers for Earth Day with Celebrity Support

PlanetPlay's Earth Day Campaign: Mobilizing Gamers for a Greener Future

As Earth Day approaches on April 22, 2025, PlanetPlay, a pioneering non-profit organization, is launching an inspiring campaign aimed at leveraging the power of video games for environmental initiatives. This year marks the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, celebrating the theme 'Our Power, Our Planet,' and PlanetPlay is poised to make a significant impact with their Make Green Moves (MGM) initiative.

New Celebrity Ambassadors Join the Movement

To amplify their message, PlanetPlay has enlisted three high-profile celebrity ambassadors: Sir Ian Livingstone CBE, renowned as a founding figure in the UK gaming industry; Briana Evigan, an American actress and environmental advocate; and Pascal Wehrlein, a Formula E champion from Germany. Each ambassador brings unique perspectives and a vast global fanbase, set to inspire a movement among the gaming community.

Sir Ian Livingstone, a prominent figure in the games industry, expressed his excitement about using the games' potential to inspire real-world change: "Throughout my career, I've seen how games can unlock the imagination, build skills, and inspire generations. With PlanetPlay, we have an opportunity to harness that same power for the planet."

Briana Evigan echoed the sentiment, sharing her enthusiasm for blending storytelling with gaming to reach hearts: "I'm so excited to become an Ambassador for PlanetPlay because it's giving us the opportunity to blend storytelling and gaming in a way that helps bring people back to the heart of the earth."

Pascal Wehrlein highlighted the potential of gaming to inspire global change: "As Formula E World Champion, I've seen firsthand how innovation and technology can drive real progress in sustainability. That's why I'm excited to join PlanetPlay – together, we can engage millions of players in making a real impact for the planet."

Participating Games and Earth Month Donations

PlanetPlay's MGM campaign will feature exclusive in-game content in popular titles such as Avakin Life, Fishing Clash, Peridot, and Subway Surfers throughout April. Additionally, in celebration of Earth Month, PlanetPlay will launch a donations campaign, encouraging individual gamers and game studios to contribute to their cause. This initiative aims to fund climate-positive projects globally, with all donations directly supporting environmental efforts.

The organization has made it clear that they intend to use 100% of donations for impactful projects, allowing players to contribute to sustainability efforts while enjoying the games they love. Users can donate to the campaign through the PlanetPlay website, showcasing how gaming can fuel positive environmental action.

Raising Awareness Through Multiplayer Engagement

PlanetPlay's CEO, Rhea Loucas, emphasized the unique role video games play in connecting people and inspiring action. She noted, "Video games have an incredible ability to connect people, inspire action, and make change feel accessible. Earth Month and Earth Day are cornerstone moments for the sustainability movement, and we are ramping up our efforts to meet that energy."

As a step further in their campaign, from April 22–29, Google Play will highlight PlanetPlay's Earth Day activities, offering players ways to earn Play Points boosters through purchases of MGM items. This collaboration demonstrates how the gaming industry can unite players for a greener cause.

A Movement for Future Generations

PlanetPlay’s campaign illustrates a significant shift in how gamers can engage with real-world challenges. The involvement of celebrities not only boosts visibility but also encourages gamers to see themselves as proactive contributors to environmental sustainability. Players motivated by their love for gaming can now channel their passion into meaningful action for the planet.

This initiative is more than just a campaign; it's a call to action for over three billion gamers worldwide to partner in crafting a sustainable future through their gaming experiences. PlanetPlay is breaking ground, proving that when gaming meets advocacy, the results can be powerful and transformative for the environment.
