Shibuya Archive Photo Exhibition 2025
The Shibuya Ward, led by Mayor Ken Hasebe, will present a remarkable exhibition from November 18 to 30, 2025, titled "Shibuya Archive Photo Exhibition 2025." The exhibition features photographs from the Shibuya Digital Archive, "SHIBUYA CITY RECORD," and the Shirane Memorial Shibuya Local History Museum and Literary Museum.
Organized by the Commons Archive Collective with the support of the Shibuya Ward, the exhibition aims to share the value of the memories and records of Shibuya City. The event will be held at Shibuya Hikarie's 8th floor court in collaboration with the Shibuya Dogenzaka Shopping Street Promotion Association. This is the third edition of the exhibition, which this year focuses on the theme of "Named Streets of Shibuya."

Highlights of the Exhibition

Named Streets of Shibuya: Based on research by the Commons Archive Collective, it has been discovered that there are approximately 70 named streets within a 1km radius of Shibuya Station. The exhibition will showcase photographs and details of 30 of these streets, explaining the background of their names in conjunction with the photographs on display.

Iconic Past Landscapes: Experience historical images capturing bygone scenes in Shibuya, such as the movie theaters that once thrived, the days of streetcars running through Miyamasuzaka, and the cable cars above Shibuya Station. A timeline highlighting significant events in Shibuya's history will further enrich the experience of the city’s transformation.

Diverse Perspectives Across Time and Space: Featuring photographs from various contributors, including local businesses, universities, and government officials, the exhibition categorizes the images based on the theme of "Streets of Shibuya." With distinct viewpoints from different times and locations presented together, attendees will embark on a unique visual journey through Shibuya.
