Montavista's Revolutionary Lithium Battery Achieves Record Cycle Life Over 1280 Using eVTOL Profile

Montavista's Remarkable Lithium-Metal Battery Performance

At the recent AERO Friedrichshafen aviation exhibition held in Germany, Montavista Energy Technologies Corporation (Anhui) introduced ground-breaking performance metrics for its lithium-metal battery (LMB). The result: an extraordinary life cycle of more than 1280 cycles with an amazing capacity retention rate of 99%. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the quest for efficient energy solutions for electrically-powered aircraft.

The METARY® P lithium-metal battery model showcases a mass-specific energy density of 400 Wh/kg, which illuminates its potential for extending operational efficiency and reducing commercial flight costs. The demand for high-energy density power sources has never been more critical in aviation, particularly for aircrafts that rely on electric mechanisms. The benchmark established by Montavista is set to redefine expectations for electric vehicle technology.

In aviation, a variety of performance parameters such as energy density, safety, discharge rate, and cycle life are crucial for ensuring flight reliability. A battery that can deliver both high energy density and an extensive cycle life will ultimately enhance the operational efficiencies of electric aviation. While higher energy density can facilitate longer flights, longer cycle life leads to reduced costs as the same battery can be reused multiple times, underscoring the financial viability of electric aircraft.

Previously, in 2020, Montavista had unveiled its METARY® E series LMB products, which targeted a remarkable energy density of 500 Wh/kg. This range was aimed specifically at applications with lower discharge rate demands, such as high-altitude platforms. Fast forward to 2023, Montavista shifted focus to launch the METARY® P series designed to cater to the intricacies associated with eVTOL and drones. The collaboration with international eVTOL manufacturers allowed Montavista to make significant strides in optimizing performance profiles for demanding real-world applications.

This vital breakthrough showcased during AERO not only addresses the challenges faced by eVTOL operators but also lays a foundation for the broader adoption of electric aircraft by increasing their reliability and cost-effectiveness. In his keynote address during the
