The Thought-Provoking Music Exhibition Returns for Its Third Phase in Toranomon

The Thought-Provoking Music Exhibition

The third phase of the 'Thought-Provoking Music' exhibition is currently taking place at the SIGNAL gallery in Toranomon, Tokyo, a project led by SIGNING, under the curation of Yoji Sakuma. The exhibition has recently undergone updates with the inclusion of new works, building upon a series that has already drawn significant attention from art enthusiasts.

About the Exhibition

In a world increasingly dominated by fleeting social media content, traditional contemporary art has been struggling to maintain its impact on younger audiences. However, the realm of internet music continues to thrive, presenting a novel source of creativity and inspiration. It’s within this context that the 'Thought-Provoking Music' exhibition aims to explore how arts can influence social change and reshape public perceptions, by collaborating with musicians and creators willing to push boundaries.

Previous installments of the exhibition, including 'Expanded Music' and 'Music That Coexists,' have attracted a combined total of 5,000 visitors, creating a vibrant community eager for innovative artistic expressions. The current phase, hosted at the SIGNAL gallery, showcases an exciting blend of creativity from notable contributors like Haraguchi Saho, x0o0x_, sekai, 100pHz, and gyuruko, among others.

Running from February 4 to February 21, this show serves as a culmination of the ongoing exploration into music and its philosophical implications. Each visitor to the exhibition will have the unique chance to receive an exclusive original coaster for their drink order, a limited edition that reflects the artistic spirit of this significant cultural event.

Curator Profile: Yoji Sakuma

Yoji Sakuma, a prominent figure in contemporary cultural discourse, serves not only as the curator for this exhibition but also holds several influential positions. He is a special researcher at Osaka University’s Social Solution Initiative, the director of the Japan Pavilion for the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, and the CEO of the general incorporated association, Shape New World Initiative. His roles extend beyond curation, actively engaging with the intersection of art, technology, and society.

Born in 1996, Sakuma's research focuses on virtual beings and future social design. His work earned him the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award at the Japan Open Innovation Grand Prize in 2022, and he was recently named one of Forbes Japan's 30 Under 30 for 2023.
