Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo 2027 S/S
The highly anticipated Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo for the Spring/Summer 2027 season has officially commenced, commencing on August 31 and running until September 5. This week promises innovative designs and stunning presentations from Japan's leading fashion houses, kicking off with a strong lineup of talent.
Day One Highlights
On the opening day,
yoshiokubo took the spotlight at the Hikarie Hall A, showing a sophisticated collection that highlighted its recurring theme: “Natural Born Nomads.” The show featured an impressive display, including a gigantic Mongolian ger in the hall, setting a dramatic backdrop. The collection unfolded a story inspired by a youth moving naturally along the Los Angeles coastline, symbolizing freedom and fluidity in fashion. Lightweight materials and clever cuts allowed for everyday wear that remained distinctively sharp and stylish.
Designer Yoshiokubo emphasized the importance of intricate craftsmanship in today’s fashion scene. The presentation was further enhanced with playful elements like prints of runners and whimsical bone motifs. The finale featured Kubo himself under black lights, adding surprise to the creative direction and conveying the spirit of today’s independent runners.
Seivson's Elegant Presentation
The afternoon continued with
Seivson at the historic Hatoyama Hall, renowned for its stunning Taisho-era architecture. The collection transported viewers into a private world reminiscent of intimate living spaces. Models engaged in the subtle act of touching up their makeup reflected a sense of voyeuristic secrecy. The theme “Keibou,” meaning spaces of rest, allowed for a unique exploration of feminine attire, showcasing a blend of gothic undertones within its iconic lingerie details. The color palette transitioned from classic black and white to shades of pink-beige, striking a balance between adult sophistication and youthful charm.
Adding to the collection's allure, Seivson redefined underwear as an “exoskeleton,” crafting bold silhouettes that exuded a sense of empowerment. Collaborations brought fresh, sensual creations with fabric elements that engaged with their textiles’ natural properties.
WHiTENOOK's Fusion of Styles
Following Seivson,
WHiTENOOK, under the guidance of designer Su Xin, marked their debut as an official designer in the Rakuten Fashion Week with a collection titled “Fusion.” Starting with clean, natural fabrics that eventually transitioned into denim, the designs celebrated the essence of artisanal materials. Subtle layering and innovative deconstruction added dimension to denim as it blended into other fabrics.
The designer expressed a desire to expand her business in Japan, aiming to make a lasting impact on the fashion scene. The focus on technique and material exploration allows WHiTENOOK to stand out, further exemplifying the unique artistry present at this year’s fashion week.
