Kolmar Korea Set to Redefine Global Skincare Market with Unique Offerings
Kolmar Korea, a leading Original Development Manufacturer (ODM) in the cosmetics industry, is intensifying its approach to penetrate the global skincare market. The company's initiative revolves around launching an array of K-beauty products that highlight the "uniquely Korean" aspect, particularly focusing on natural ingredients that resonate with the growing consumer demand for clean beauty.
In recent years, the face cleansing and makeup removal product segment has witnessed significant growth, partly driven by social media platforms like TikTok which have popularized trends in skincare. The term "Korean skincare routine" has become a prevalent topic within the beauty industry. Consequently, consumers who previously concentrated on sun protection products are now expanding their interest toward complete skincare routines.
In responding to this trend, Kolmar Korea emphasizes collaboration with international skincare brand partners to develop products enriched with natural ingredients sourced from Korea. A prime example of this collaborative effort is the Mung Bean Cleansing Foam, crafted in partnership with Beplain, a renowned skincare brand. This gentle foam cleanser effectively showcases the benefits of mung beans, a natural ingredient that Koreans have utilized for over a millennium to cleanse the skin, boasting a formula that prevents irritation while deeply cleansing.
Thanks to organic growth through social media buzz, this product has transcended borders and gained global popularity, surpassing sales of 10 million units across the U.S., France, China, Vietnam, and beyond.
Kolmar is also advancing the development of natural face masks incorporating mud. One of its standout products, the Relief Mud Mask, was co-created with BRMUD, a brand specializing in mud- infused cosmetics. This mask features over 30% Boryeong mud harvested from one of the largest tidal flats in the world and is renowned for finely grinding the mud down to a particle size 1/40 that of flour, allowing it to absorb impurities delicately yet effectively. Its rise to fame was expedited after American rapper Cardi B praised it on TikTok, earning it the moniker "Cardi B Mud Mask". Currently, it is available in 11 countries, including Costco stores in the United States.
None of these innovations would be possible without Kolmar Korea's cutting-edge research and development facility. The company dedicates over 6% of its annual sales to R&D, employing a workforce where more than 30% are researchers. This emphasis on expertise and innovation allows Kolmar to maintain its competitive edge, leveraging knowledge gained from collaboration with approximately 4,300 global clients.
Continually striving to harness unique Korean ingredients, Kolmar recently published findings in a scientific journal indexed in the SCI, confirming the anti-aging properties of Spiraea salicifolia (willow-leaved spiraea). Furthermore, it has successfully registered this plant in the International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary (ICID). Over the past year, the company discovered that extracts from Sophora flavescens possess hair loss prevention properties, captured the attention of industry experts during an international scientific conference.
Kolmar is also working on commercializing scents derived from indigenous Korean plant species like Rose of Sharon and lotus to promote traditional sensory values of Korea's flora.
A representative from Kolmar Korea commented, "Consumers worldwide are increasingly recognizing the importance of holistic skin maintenance, going beyond just sun protection. Our offerings are becoming more competitive through the integration of modern technology with Korea's national treasures. We are committed to continuously investing in research, development, and innovation to lead in this new segment of K-beauty utilizing native ingredients."
