NRMP Welcomes New Members to Board of Directors
The National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) is thrilled to announce the addition of five new members to its Board of Directors, expanding its influence within the healthcare education community. With elections concluding, these diverse professionals bring a wealth of experience and new perspectives to the ongoing discussions surrounding residency match processes.
Chair of the NRMP Board, Dr. Natasha Bray, expressed her excitement for the new members, stating, "It's invigorating to see the enthusiasm and energy that our new Board members will inject into our conversations. Their insights and experiences will be invaluable as we continue to navigate the complexities of medical training and residency transitions."
Meet the New Board Members
1. Humza Ahmed - Currently in his third year at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, Humza is engaged actively in student governance as Class Council Secretary. Before medical school, he gained experience in the healthcare sector as a revenue cycle analyst at Huron Consulting Group, guiding students through the admissions process as a mentor. Humza holds a degree in integrated health studies with a psychology minor from the University of Chicago.
2. Jason Collins - Another promising candidate, Jason is also a third-year medical student at Northeast Ohio Medical University. His involvement in academic governance includes serving on the university's Curriculum Committee, focusing on improving the educational experience for medical students. With a background as an investment analyst and certified emergency medical technician, he holds a degree in economics and minors in biology and chemistry.
3. Dr. Nicholas Leighton - A rising PGY3 resident in General Surgery at USC, Dr. Leighton has a distinguished academic background, having received accolades for his contributions to medical programs and advancements in patient care. He previously worked in advocacy and strategic alliances for pharmaceutical companies and was an intern with the AMA Foundation. He earned his bachelor's from Northwestern University and his medical degree from The George Washington University.
4. Dr. Steven D. Pletcher - As Vice Chair for Education and director of the UCSF Otolaryngology residency program, Dr. Pletcher combines his administrative expertise with passion for education. His pioneering preference signaling initiative has reshaped application processes within the specialty, and he has received notable awards for educational excellence.
5. Dr. Marcy L. Verduin - A pioneer in medical education with a focus on mentorship and transparent transitions to residency, Dr. Verduin is the senior associate dean for medical education at UCF. A strong advocate for teaching and research, she is recognized for her leadership in academic psychiatry and has received numerous accolades for her mentorship and dedication to education.

NRMP President and CEO, Donna L. Lamb, DHSc, MBA, remarked, "This year, as with every year, we welcomed a wide array of applicants from UME and GME communities eager to contribute to the transition to residency. I am eager to collaborate with our new members and to leverage their unique skills for the benefit of the NRMP and our constituents."
The appointed members will begin their terms on July 1, and the NRMP appreciates the dedication of outgoing Board members for their prior service.
