Vietnam Airlines Trials AI-Powered Operational Forecaster
Vietnam Airlines JSC has commenced a trial of the operational optimization tool, "Operational Forecaster," developed by NABLA Mobility, a company based in Chiyoda, Tokyo. This collaboration marks the first partnership between the state-owned Vietnam Airlines and NABLA Mobility, as well as the initial introduction of the Operational Forecaster in Southeast Asia.
The trial will focus on both domestic and international flights, allowing Vietnam Airlines to utilize and assess the Operational Forecaster in real-world operational settings. It aims to identify and manage delay risks across their network effectively. The vision of NABLA Mobility to advance AI-powered operational support aligns with Vietnam Airlines' commitment to digital transformation and investment in new technologies, leading to this collaborative initiative.
The Operational Forecaster merges historical flight data, weather forecasts, air traffic conditions, and flight schedules to proactively identify flights at risk of delays. Beyond merely highlighting potential delays, it visualizes the primary factors contributing to those delays and displays the system's confidence level regarding each prediction. When a delay occurs, the tool simulates its potential ripple effects across the network, enabling operations managers and dispatchers to explore remediation options proactively, thus facilitating improved decision-making processes. Notably, this tool is designed to assist operations managers and dispatchers rather than replace their judgments.
"Testing new AI-driven decision-support tools inside our Operations Control Center reflects Vietnam Airlines' commitment to innovation and to strengthening how we manage flight operations," stated Nhu Huy Hung, the Deputy Director of the Operations Control Center at Vietnam Airlines.
NABLA Mobility’s founder and CEO, Tatsuji Tanaka, added, "We don’t want to build a tool that replaces human operators. Our goal is to help operations controllers see risk earlier, so they have more time to evaluate the situation and make the right call."
The Operations Control Center at Vietnam Airlines serves as the operational command hub, ensuring 24/7 monitoring and adjustments of all flights, striving for both safety and punctuality.
