Huawei and JA Solar Launch Green Education Project in Thailand

In a significant move towards fostering environmental awareness and technological skills among students, Huawei and JA Solar have officially launched a green education project in Thailand. This initiative, which involves collaboration with UNESCO and the Thai Ministry of Education, aims to create a new generation well-versed in ecological knowledge and digital capabilities.

Project Overview

On December 12, 2024, in Bangkok, the project was unveiled under the auspices of Huawei's TECH4ALL initiative. It seeks to implement clean energy solutions and provide training in information and communication technologies (ICT) across eleven schools and community centers throughout Thailand. This effort is part of a broader mission to address key educational and energy challenges, particularly in underserved rural areas.

David Li, the CEO of Huawei Thailand, emphasized the long-term vision of this initiative, stating, "The Green Education Project goes beyond mere corporate social responsibility (CSR); it is a lasting investment in the youth and the future of Thailand. By combining clean energy solutions with practical education, we aim to create a model for sustainable growth and inclusion."

Impact on Local Communities

The first beneficiaries of the project include the Banna District Learning Encouragement Center and Kanchanapisek Vocational Training College. The Banna Center, located in Nakhon Nayok, will provide free training in green energy and digital literacy to bridge the skills gap in the region. Meanwhile, Kanchanapisek College will utilize donated photovoltaic systems to instruct students on installation, maintenance, and operation, equipping them with valuable technical skills for future employment.

Feedback from local schools and teachers regarding the project's implementation has been positive. Tisakorn Klinbooppha, the director of the Banna Center, remarked, "This project exemplifies how collaboration between global corporations and local institutions can bring about meaningful change. The donated solar equipment will afford our students practical experience in installing and maintaining renewable energy systems, giving them a competitive edge in the job market."

Three Pillars of the Green Education Project

The project's framework is built around three key components:
1. Green Schools for Secondary Education: Installing rooftop solar systems in secondary schools and providing training for teachers and students on the benefits and operations of green energy.
2. Green Schools for Vocational Education: Equipping technical and vocational institutions to work directly with photovoltaic systems, preparing students for careers in the thriving renewable energy sector.
3. Green Communities: Supporting public libraries and education centers through renewable energy programs and mobile digital education initiatives, which include training on green energy and cybersecurity offered via Huawei's Digital Bus.

The Huawei Digital Bus has already facilitated free training on green energy, computer crime awareness, and telecommunications to students in Nakhon Nayok, reaching ten remote provinces and benefiting over 4,500 students.
