BOC Aviation Orders 50 Boeing 737 MAX Jets

In a significant move to bolster its fleet amid increasing demand for air travel, BOC Aviation has placed a firm order for 50 new Boeing 737-8 jets. This latest order marks an expansion of the lessor's 737 MAX portfolio to a total of 215 jets, comprising both 737-8 and 737-9 models. Steven Townend, CEO and Managing Director of BOC Aviation, emphasized the vital relationship with Boeing that has facilitated this order. He stated, "This order will enable us to continue providing our airline customers with technologically advanced aircraft for their future fleet growth." With the latest commitments, BOC Aviation's order book has swelled to 139 unfulfilled orders, showcasing the company's robust positioning within the aviation leasing sector.

Currently, BOC Aviation operates 69 737 MAX aircraft, leasing them to over 15 airlines worldwide. The growing demand for narrow-body jets has prompted a surge in orders, as projected deliveries indicate that these aircraft could account for up to 75% of global demand in the coming two decades. As airlines look to modernize their fleets, the value of the 737 MAX series becomes increasingly evident, especially given the need to retire older models.

The 737-8's Unique Advantages

With a seating capacity ranging from 162 to 210 passengers based on aircraft configuration and a range of up to 3,500 nautical miles, it’s ideal for both short-haul and medium-haul routes. Brad McMullen, Boeing's senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing, noted that the 737-8 is a top choice among airlines due to its operational savings stemming from lower fuel consumption.

As airlines gradually re-establish their routes and expand their services, the demand for efficient and reliable aircraft has instigated an uptick in orders for the 737 MAX series, exceeding 1,200 units to date from various lessors.
