Unveiling the Art of Vocal Direction at agehasprings Open Lab vol.4

Unveiling the Art of Vocal Direction

On August 2, 2025, agehasprings, a dynamic music production company based in Shibuya, Tokyo, held its latest creative workshop event, "agehasprings Open Lab. vol.4," at Studio 126 Tokyo. This event was part of the immersive and innovative music lab program known as [agehasprings The Lab.], bringing together around 70 participants selected through a public lottery. After nearly five years since the last similar event, this year’s focus was on the intricate theme of vocal direction, which was explored in two compelling segments.

First Session: Mastering Vocal Direction

The first session featured a captivating tutorial led by Kenji Tamai, the CEO of agehasprings and a renowned producer, using recording footage of the girl band, "Togenashi Togeari" and its vocalist, Rina. Tamai’s lecture zoomed in on the nuances of vocal performance, emphasizing the concept of expression design tailored for a global audience. He illustrated how subtle changes in vocal delivery can influence the listener's perception by employing a before-and-after analysis.

Through this segment, participants gained insight into the meticulous thought process behind vocal direction. This approach not only enhances the artist's performance but also enriches the overall auditory experience for the audience.

Second Session: Live Vocal Direction Performance

The second half of the workshop showcased live vocal direction with two singer-songwriters stepping into the spotlight. Tamai conducted an interactive session where he displayed his vocal direction techniques in real-time. Participants witnessed the immediate transformation in vocal performances as elements such as emotional expressions, breathing techniques, and vocal balance were refined under his guidance. This immersive experience effectively illustrated how artistic expression can be drawn out of performers through skillful direction.

AI Artist Showcases

Additionally, attendees had the unique opportunity to engage with "Meito Shirakami," an AI Artist developed by the company TMIK. This interactive display allowed visitors to ask questions about Tamai and [The Lab.], fostering a friendly dialogue that demonstrated the innovative intersection of AI and music.

Tamai concluded the event with a poignant statement regarding the value of creative experiences, expressing his desire to share the discoveries and emotions derived from the production process with a broader audience. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that [The Lab.] continues to provide feedback and creative knowledge back to society.

A Platform for Emerging Creators

The workshop aimed to cultivate a rich atmosphere of knowledge and enthusiasm among young creators, aspiring artists, and industry professionals. Detailed reports of the day's events are available on the official agehasprings The Lab. community site, highlighting the collaborative spirit of the session.

Looking ahead, agehasprings is committed to creating more platforms where diverse talents can converge, shaping the future of the music landscape.
