Resolution Copper Allocates $144 Million for Strategic Project Development in Arizona
Resolution Copper Mining has made a significant announcement, revealing its plans to invest
$144 million into the next phase of its development project located in
Arizona, which is considered one of the
largest untapped copper deposits worldwide. This substantial funding is poised to enhance not only the project's infrastructure but also the local economy through job creation and increased copper production.
The investment follows the successful completion of a historic land exchange that occurred in
March of this year, which was essential in unlocking the next phases of the project. The funding will primarily go towards conducting crucial feasibility studies and finalizing the design engineering necessary for the development and production-level material handling equipment, essential for the upcoming operational phases. Additionally, the investment aims to establish new
water treatment facilities and continue ongoing
exploration drilling.
In a detailed breakdown, the funds will facilitate the procurement of essential underground development equipment, which includes transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear that are essential for the project's electrical systems. This phase of the project is also expected to create around
50 new roles, comprising mining technicians, geologists, engineers, and various project service specialists, contributing to a sustainable workforce in the region.
Located near the town of
Superior, the copper deposit lies between
5,000 and 7,000 feet underground, showcasing the project's potential to become one of America's largest copper mines. The Resolution Copper project is projected to inject approximately
$1 billion annually into the state’s economy, paving the path for local advancements and job opportunities both directly and indirectly associated with the mining sector.
During the announcement, Resolution Copper President
Vicky Peacey emphasized the importance of this investment, stating that it builds on the momentum initiated by the land exchange and marks an essential stride in unlocking the project’s vast potential. According to her, Resolution Copper is not just a significant find but has the promise of being a vital copper source for the
United States, aiding American industries while fueling economic growth for many decades ahead.
"We are moving forward with urgency and discipline. This program will accelerate underground development and our path towards first copper production while maintaining safe underground operations and construction, positioning the project strongly for its next investment decision," said Peacey, indicating a clear commitment towards sustainable practices and operational efficiency.
As Resolution Copper moves ahead, it remains operating under the governance of
Resolution Copper Mining, a limited liability entity that is primarily owned by
Resolution Copper Company, a subsidiary of
Rio Tinto PLC, holding a
55% stake, and
BHP Copper Inc., which possesses
45%. This strategic collaboration not only aims to fulfill market demands but also reinforces the blueprint for responsible economic development in the
mining sector.
