Reviving Retro: BuyKuru's Campaign for Vintage Games and Electronics

Reviving the Forgotten: BuyKuru Mito’s Retro Products Campaign

From May 15, 2026, BuyKuru Mito Store is embarking on an inspiring initiative known as the "Retro Products Reuse Promotion Campaign". This campaign is aimed at revitalizing vintage home game consoles, household electronics, and various other items from the Showa to early Heisei periods.

In recent times, many individuals cleaning out family homes deem older products as obsolete, often leading them to be discarded despite still holding potential value. At BuyKuru Mito, each retro product will be meticulously evaluated to connect it with the next person who will cherish it.

Reducing Waste With Nostalgia

The nostalgia for products manufactured in Japan during the 1980s to 90s is alive and thriving, particularly among collectors and enthusiasts. However, due to a prevailing attitude that old goods are worthless, countless items end up in landfills. The Mito store is committed to assessing these retro treasures and ensuring they find a new home where they can be appreciated once more.

Three Features of the Campaign

1. Assessment of Non-Operational Items

Even if the game console is not operational or some parts are damaged, BuyKuru will assess these items based on the demand for parts or the value they might hold for collectors. Products previously deemed irreparable can still be saved and connected to someone in need.

2. Expert Appraisal on Retro Products

With a wealth of transaction experience both domestically and internationally, BuyKuru staff utilize knowledge of the unique market for vintage products during the appraisal process. Each item will be carefully evaluated individually, whether it be numerous game software or items that have been stored away for years.

3. Targeted Items for Assessment

  • - Gaming: Consoles and software from the 1980s to the 2000s, including peripherals.
  • - Electronics and Audio: Cassette players, portable music players, cameras, and lighting fixtures.
  • - Household Goods: Character merchandise, corporate giveaways, toys, and other items from the Showa to early Heisei periods.

Additional Valuation Options

As part of the campaign, the BuyKuru store offers a "Consolidated Assessment" option where clients can prepare surrounding equipment and household items they wish to sell. You can use the "1,000 yen Buy Box" for smaller items, such as small electronics and miscellaneous products. A specialized box will be provided by the assessment staff for you to fill, with each box being accepted at 1,000 yen. Please note that some items may not be accepted, so consult with the appraiser present on the day for details.
