Exploring Sustainable Theater: The Role of Art in Community Revitalization

On March 13, 2026, C&R Corporation (C&R) will host a free online seminar focusing on the intersection of art, content, and community revitalization. This seminar is particularly catered to local businesses, municipal employees, content creators, and anyone interested in harnessing the power of arts and culture to energize their communities.

The seminar, part of the ongoing “Art and Community Development Series” moderated by independent director Mikio Sugiura, will feature a distinguished guest speaker, Takahiro Okada, who is the representative of the theatrical company Maekabu and the Program Officer at Creative Port Takamatsu. This seminar marks the 20th installment in the series and will delve into the upcoming opening of the “Chameleon Picture Book Theater” in the Tamachi shopping district of Takamatsu city, set to launch in April 2026.

The relevance of such initiatives has grown significantly as local governments across Japan are increasingly prioritizing cultural policies and community engagement through content. However, many participants face challenges, such as articulating the outcomes of cultural policies or bridging the knowledge gap among local stakeholders. Through this seminar, C&R aims to tackle these issues, providing foundational insights for local officials and creators working with municipalities.
