ROTEC's Innovative Flow Reversal Technology Powers Water Reuse Initiative at California Power Plant

ROTEC USA LLC, known for its state-of-the-art reverse osmosis technologies, has announced a significant development in water treatment at the El Centro Generating Station in California. This project is part of the Imperial Irrigation District (IID)'s comprehensive wastewater mitigation program aimed at diminishing surface-water discharge and promoting onsite water reuse.

About the Project

With the growing emphasis on sustainability and environmental responsibility, the El Centro Generating Station will now harness ROTEC's advanced Flow Reversal Reverse Osmosis (FR-RO) system. This innovative technology is set to treat cooling tower blowdown wastewater, effectively converting it into a reusable resource within the facility.

This advanced treatment solution addresses the increasingly strict regulations regarding wastewater discharge, providing a pathway for the power plant to align with ecological demands while enhancing its operational efficiency. The El Centro facility, which generates more than 330 MW of electricity, plays a vital role in delivering reliable power across the Imperial and Coachella valleys, making the integration of this technology even more crucial.

Technical Details

ROTEC's contribution to the project includes sophisticated processes such as membrane microfiltration combined with high-recovery Flow Reversal Reverse Osmosis. This duo will not only process the cooling tower blowdown but also ensure that the treated water becomes a viable feed source for boiler operations.

The recovery efforts will lead to significant water savings by directing the considerably smaller concentrate stream produced by the FR-RO system to evaporation ponds, thus lessening the reliance on external water sources.
