Canton Fair's Trade Bridge Trip to Dongguan: A Boost for Local Economy
In December 2024, the Canton Fair organized a successful procurement trip titled "Trade Bridge" aimed at promoting high-quality foreign trade development and supporting local economic growth in Dongguan. This strategic initiative witnessed the participation of 24 multinational enterprises collaborating with over 70 local manufacturing companies, resulting in an impressive projected order volume of $62 million.
The event was co-hosted with the Ministry of Commerce of Guangdong Province and the Dongguan Municipal Bureau of Commerce. Key players from nations such as the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, India, and the United Arab Emirates attended, contributing to the dynamic exchange of ideas and business strategies that characterized this gathering.
Dongguan is recognized as a vital industrial hub in China, boasting a robust industrial base, comprehensive supply chain, and efficient logistics systems that facilitate global trade. The Dalang area, known as the "Wool Capital of the World," and the Songshan Lake, which is a high-tech zone featuring a prominent cluster of electronic information and digital economy sectors, were focal points during the event.
The procurement journey included factory visits, promotional activities, negotiations, and contract signings designed to enhance the visibility of local products and services in international markets. An exhibition area dedicated to household appliances and clothing/bags/luggage was established, showcasing over 300 samples from local suppliers. This interaction provided an excellent platform for businesses to showcase their strengths and advantages while gaining valuable insights into market demands from buyers, which is crucial for future product development and market strategy adjustments.
During this initiative, over 700 "Trade Bridge" events took place at the Canton Fair in 2024, further highlighting the fair's commitment to facilitating comprehensive international trade cooperation. Zhang Sihong, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Canton Fair, emphasized, "The Canton Fair serves as a key platform for China's openness to the broader world and plays an essential role in fostering economic and trade relations between China and foreign partners. In 2025, we aim to connect local economic departments and organize demand-oriented trade events across the country, thereby continuing to build bridges for trade."
The upcoming 137th Canton Fair is scheduled to be held from April 15 to May 5, 2025, in Guangzhou. Anticipation for this highly regarded event is growing, and attendees are encouraged to download the Canton Fair app, which is now available, to initiate their planning for the fair and explore further business opportunities.
