Significant Progress in Concord's Educational Facilities: Demolition of Old Middle School
Significant Progress in Concord's Educational Facilities
In a pivotal move towards enhancing educational infrastructure, CTA Construction Managers has recently commenced the demolition of the old Concord Middle School building. This action signifies an important step forward in the town's commitment to modernize its educational environment. The demolition followed the successful completion of the new Ellen Garrison Middle School, which officially opened its doors to students on February 25, 2025.
The project was executed under a tight schedule, with final preparations made just before the mid-winter break. Students from various grades eagerly participated in the inaugural all-school assembly, celebrating their new beginning in a unified space designed to cater to 21st-century educational needs.
Designed by the renowned architectural firm SMMA, the new middle school serves as a beacon of progressive public education. Jennifer Soucy, Project Manager at SMMA, emphasized that the demolition of the old building not only signifies the end of an era but also clears the way for further enhancements, including the relocation and development of the playing fields, which will significantly benefit students.
LiRo-Hill, a respected project management firm, is overseeing the undertaking as the Owner's Project Manager (OPM). Ian Parks, Project Director from LiRo-Hill, expressed optimism about the developments stating, "We appreciate the steady progress being made on the Concord Middle School building project and look forward to the ongoing redevelopment of the land surrounding the former middle school."
Dr. Laurie Hunter, Superintendent of Schools for the Concord Public Schools, highlighted that the completion of the Ellen Garrison Middle School reflects the town's vision of consolidating educational facilities into a single, modern setting. The planned use of the existing school property for athletic fields is intended to maximize public resource utilization and maintain student access to these facilities, thereby enriching their educational experience.
In addition to the school building, CTA Construction is also working on the establishment of new sports fields, including softball, baseball, and soccer, aimed at fostering a well-rounded educational environment. Principal Lyle Coghlin from CTA Construction Managers shared their enthusiasm, stating, "We look forward to completing the construction of the new athletic facilities, which will undoubtedly serve as an essential component of our students' extracurricular activities."
