Home Telecom and Tri-Community Center Join Forces for Community Improvement with $5,000 Grant

Home Telecom Celebrates $5,000 Grant for Community Welfare

A Milestone for Tri-Community Center

Home Telecom recently expressed its enthusiasm regarding a significant development in community support. The Tri-Community Center, located in Cross, South Carolina, has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Foundation for Rural Service (FRS). This funding, part of the FRS Community Grant Program, aims to empower local organizations that engineer meaningful progress.

The FRS, a non-profit entity established in 1994 by the NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association, serves a crucial role in the rural telecommunications sector. The foundation provides resources and educational support to advance the interests of rural telecom firms, consumers, and decision-makers.

Impact of the Grant

Home Telecom submitted applications for grants on behalf of different community organizations, with the Tri-Community Center emerging as the first to receive funding. FRS grants are allocated annually to commendable non-profits, municipal entities, and community-focused groups that implement technology-oriented projects. Such projects are essential for fostering long-term benefits for the communities they serve.

Gina Shuler, Vice President of Marketing at Home Telecom, commented on the positive effects of the grant: "Home Telecom is committed to ensuring that rural communities have access to the technology and opportunities they need to grow and thrive. The Tri-Community Center can expand its internet-optimized programs that foster health, wellness, career advancement, and education."

Facilities and Future Plans

The Tri-Community Center is based on a sprawling 10-acre site of the former Sandridge Elementary School on Poplar Drive in Cross. This facility, with an impressive 29,000 square feet, will be leveraged to implement various health and wellness programs that cater to the community.

Acting as one of the five community hubs designated by the Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce, the Tri-Community Center has established collaborations with notable organizations such as the Kennedy Center, the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), and Trident Technical College. Their joint efforts aim to address the health issues impacting the local populace while promoting awareness and education on well-being.

The center's program is projected to have a positive impact on around 1,500 local residents, providing valuable resources and initiatives focused on health education, community cohesion, and personal development. Though the center primarily serves residents of Cross, Sandridge, Pringletown, and Ridgeville, it will also cater to individuals from bordering communities like St. Stephen, Pineville, and Eadytown.

A Commitment to Community Development

The grant awarded to the Tri-Community Center exemplifies Home Telecom’s ongoing dedication to enhancing connectivity and access to technology in rural areas. The funding will be used to purchase necessary equipment and cover installation costs, enabling the center to fulfill its mission effectively.

In conclusion, the partnership between Home Telecom and the Tri-Community Center represents not only financial assistance but also a shared vision for a healthier, more educated community replete with opportunities for all. As the center prepares to roll out its initiatives, the anticipation for the positive changes this partnership will bring to the local community remains high.
