Delska's New 10MW Data Center in Latvia Achieves Prestigious Tier III Certification

Delska's New 10MW Data Center in Latvia

Overview

On August 19, 2025, Delska, one of Northern Europe's prominent data center operators, announced that its upcoming facility, EU North Riga LV DC1, has earned the highly regarded Tier III Design Certification from the Uptime Institute. This certification is a critical milestone as the facility prepares for its launch, slated for late this year. Designed for sustainability, once operational, this center will stand as one of the greenest data facilities in the Baltic region.

Tier III Certification Explained

The Tier III Design Certification indicates that the data center meets rigorous standards for redundancy, security, and uninterrupted service, ensuring an impressive availability of 99.982%. As noted by Andris Gailitis, CEO of Delska, "In a world where even a few seconds of downtime can cost thousands of dollars, Tier III status signifies that our infrastructure remains operational even during scheduled maintenance."

Addressing Energy Shortages

To tackle the energy shortages faced by numerous major centers across Europe, the new 10 MW facility is capable of delivering up to 250 kW per rack. It is tailored to handle cutting-edge workloads, including AI and high-performance computing (HPC). The center's modular design spans 6,000 square meters and is described as fully scalable, with the potential to expand the campus up to 30 MW.

Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainability is a cornerstone of this project. The facility will be powered entirely by wind energy, complemented by backup generators fueled by renewable Neste MY diesel. With an exemplary Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of just 1.3, it will utilize advanced cooling systems, including free cooling, hot aisle containment, a robust Weiss Technik wall cooling system, and high-efficiency Trane Turbocor chillers. It will support both air cooling and high-density direct chip cooling. Delska is also striving for LEED certification, recognizing sustainable building practices—an honor shared by just a handful of structures in Latvia.

Future Plans and Developments

Once the construction is completed, the LV DC1 facility will pursue installation certification under Tier III standards to confirm that both its construction and operations uphold the exemplary benchmarks set during the design phase. This new center will be the third of its kind for Delska, joining its two existing Tier III certified centers in Lithuania. Additionally, there are plans for another data center in Lithuania and further extensions in the region to bolster Delska's network of data centers across the Baltic.

About Delska

Delska emerges as one of the largest data center operators in the Baltic region, boasting over 26 years of expertise in IT infrastructure and networking. Its facilities are entirely eco-friendly and carry Tier III and PCI-DSS certifications in Riga and Vilnius, providing a total capacity of 19 MW along with a presence in Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Stockholm. The company's portfolio encompasses cloud services, server leasing, networking, security, and management.

Since being acquired by Quaero European Infrastructure Fund II in 2020, Delska has significantly enhanced its infrastructure and energy efficiency. The fusion of DEAC (Latvia) and DLC (Lithuania) in 2024 rebranded under Delska, and subsequently, this year, RackRay (Lithuania) has joined the family of companies. The commitment to innovation and sustainability remains steadfast as Delska continues to address the growing needs of data management in a digitally evolving landscape.
