Tokyo Ink Corporation Introduces Luminade® X: A Breakthrough in Scintillator Technology
On December 1, Tokyo Ink Corporation will begin sales of its next-generation plastic scintillator,
Luminade® X. This innovative product is designed specifically for detecting X and gamma rays, utilizing a cutting-edge patented technology developed in collaboration with the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK). This marks an important advance in radiation detection technology, adhering to environmental safety standards by avoiding the use of lead.
Background of Development
The
Luminade® X has been born out of rigorous research and development efforts between Tokyo Ink Corporation and KEK, blending their expertise to create a plastic scintillator that not only boasts high detection efficiency and short decay times but is also safe for both humans and the environment. Recognizing the demand for high temporal resolution and high counting rates in radiation measurement, this product fills a significant gap in the market, enhancing the capabilities of contemporary radiation detection techniques. By reducing radioactive materials such as lead, Luminade® X will aid in the education and dissemination of radiation detection technology.
Product Specifications
The
Luminade® X scintillator showcases several noteworthy features that make it versatile for various applications:
- - Lead-free Design: Promotes safety and environmental considerations, replacing traditional lead-based scintillators.
- - High Detection Efficiency & Short Decay Time: The scintillator demonstrates a maximum detection efficiency of 16.2%/mm (under specific irradiation conditions) and exhibits decay times between 1.2 to 2.1 ns. The peak emission wavelengths are available at 422 nm or 386 nm.
- - Adaptable Specifications: Customers can choose from varying metal fill amounts (1-20 wt%) and dimensions (diameter ranging from 8 to 25 mm and thickness from 1 to 10 mm). Further custom specifications can be inquired upon.
- - X-ray Measurement Capability: Luminade® X can efficiently measure X (γ) rays up to around 100 keV, making it ideal for research institutions and medical device development.
