Memorial Flower Offering Ceremony for 80th Anniversary of Yamanote Air Raid
On Sunday, May 25, a significant event titled "Memorial Flower Offering Ceremony for the 80th Anniversary of Yamanote Air Raid" will take place in Omotesando. This ceremony serves to remember those who lost their lives during the air raids that devastated Minato Ward (formerly known as Shiba, Azabu, and Akasaka) during World War II.
The Great Tokyo Air Raid on March 10, 1945, particularly affected the lower town, but the Yamanote area itself became a direct target on May 24, resulting in extensive destruction in Shiba, Azabu, and Akasaka districts. The bombings from the night of May 25 caused unparalleled damage, claiming numerous lives in and around Omotesando.
To preserve the memories of these tragic events and provide an opportunity for people of all ages, especially the younger generation, to reflect on the importance of peace, the Minato Ward, in collaboration with the citizens' group, "Yamanote Air Raid Storytelling Committee," has organized this flower offering ceremony.
