Bourbon Podcast Announces Old Forester 1924 as 2024 Whiskey of the Year
Bourbon enthusiasts worldwide have reason to celebrate as Bourbon Podcast has crowned
Old Forester 1924 as its prestigious
2024 Whiskey of the Year. In a rigorous selection process, the hosts of the podcast—
Ben Salango,
Joe Nassif, and
Kyle Mork—conducted blind tastings of more than 100 different whiskeys, ultimately selecting Old Forester for its exceptional quality.
"From the very first sip, Old Forester 1924 made an impression that stood apart from the rest," explained Ben Salango, one of the co-hosts. When they conducted their blind taste tests, Old Forester emerged victorious, noted for its rich and flavorful profile that delighted the senses.
Old Forester 1924 is a
10-year-old bourbon that is part of the distinguished Whiskey Row Series. Its creation pays homage to the brand's remarkable past, particularly its resilience during Prohibition when it survived due to a federal medicinal license. This limited edition whiskey utilizes barrels gathered from that significant era, creating a blend that tells a story of tradition and craftsmanship.
Co-host Joe Nassif shared insights into how the barrels for Old Forester 1924 were sourced. "I was thrilled to discover that the barrels for Old Forester 1924 also came from
Brown Foreman's Shiveley Warehouse G, the same place where
King of Kentucky's 2024 origins were found. The aging process involved heat cycling for five of its ten years, leading to a unique flavor profile characterized by creamy vanilla notes," he said.
Kyle Mork, another co-host, expressed his astonishment at how Old Forester 1924 performed against some of the most coveted whiskies during their tastings. "We recognized its uniqueness right from the start. It continued to amaze us as it held its own against the top-tier whiskies; the combination of its overall complexity, completeness, and incredible value made it our clear choice for the year," he remarked.
In addition to naming the Whiskey of the Year, the Bourbon Podcast team also recognized several other top contenders for 2024, including:
- - King of Kentucky 16-Year-Old (127.3 proof)
