Okayama University Takes Major Step in Project Management Training for Future Leaders
On August 28, 2025, Okayama University held its first orientation for the Project Management Basic Training program, a significant initiative aimed at training a new generation of leaders equipped to manage the university's operations effectively. This event, conducted online, was a collaboration with the Project Management Institute (PMI) Japan, marking a pioneering effort to integrate fundamental project management skills across all departments of the university.
In his opening remarks, Yoshitomo Nasu, the university's president, expressed his enthusiasm for the program and highlighted its expansion from last year’s focus on technical staff in the General Technology Department to include all university employees. He emphasized that while project management (PM) is not a magic solution, the training will serve as a vital stepping stone for participants to enhance their management skills within the context of academia.
Takahiro Matsumoto, a senior staff member from the Human Resources Department, elaborated on the changes implemented since last year’s training program, detailing the curriculum and expectations for participants. Key PMI representatives, including Shingo Fujii, Vice President of PMI Japan, and Akio Torimoto, Deputy Leader of the Organizational Expansion Committee, participated in discussions about the practical aspects of the training, ensuring that it is accessible even for beginners.
The feedback session ignited enthusiastic discussions among participants regarding effective preparation strategies for the impending basic training.
