Dancers face off in real-time, showcasing their skills with improvised moves to the beats provided by a DJ whose selections remain a mystery until the performance starts. Victory is awarded to the dancer who secures the most votes from the judges. The event spans six categories based on various dance styles, including house, breaking, hip-hop, all styles, and popping, with the general division known as 'GENERAL'. In addition, there is a kids' division for dancers below middle school age. The GENERAL category features a 1-on-1 solo battle across five styles: house, breaking, hip-hop, all styles, and popping. Contestants compete for the chance to advance to the finals by winning within their respective categories throughout the season. There are a total of seven qualifying rounds, with additional opportunities for competitors in the popping division. Each qualifying event takes place across five regions in Japan, ensuring a wide reach without restrictions based on dancers' home locations.
